Seems thats the whole idea of the improvement.

"Some specifications:
- Replaces BMW p/n 23 21 7 651 172. Fits all R1150 6 speeds
- Shaft material is harder than OE and splines have reduced backlash to further reduce wear.
- Professionally manufactured to ISO9001, API Q1 & AGMA standards by a large North American Manufacturer.
- Original prototype now at 126,000mi (203,000km) in my own machine
- By combining with the Extended Hub Clutch Disc from Beemerboneyard an additional 6mm of spline area can be achieved for a total of 12mm.

Price: $855usd insured postage included to the contiguous USA. Paypal Accepted"
Rique-

Do you have a link for the re-manufactured trans?

The input shaft on the used one that Jim Moore posted looks nasty but maybe it would clean up okay.

Those splines are good, but those are the wrong ones. they're at the back of the transmission. You need to look at the input splines.

Here is a pic of the other side. The rear of the splines look worn or are they ok?

I thought Ss were the only ones that had the problem yet your link was a GS. That one looks bad.

All the six-speeds did. I remember hearing about it on an RT board first.

Read through it all. So, its a good used tranny or take it appart and replace the input shaft. Either way you have to tear the bike to bits.

Either way, you get to see what's going on inside the motor, that you have sort of a vague idea how it works, but you haven't actually had a reason to look for yourself yet ;-)

(Actually, although I have one of those improved input shafts and a longer-hub clutch disc, I'm not real enthusiastic about digging in. My bike is at 75k, so maybe I'm just lucky to have a good one, and if I fool around with the transmission, maybe I make things worse!)

I went ahead and purchased this transmission. Can I get some opinions on the splines. They look good to me but I'm no expert.

They look fine to me, I can't really see if there's any slight fretting .

Put up a better pic of the clutch splines, it isn't a good angle. That's not the tranny from above is it (post 26)?

Here are two more pics. Yes its the same trans. I asked seller to put a wire brush to the
forward shaft splines and take pics. Looks good to me so I bought the unit for 300.

You do realize those aren't the splines to be concerned with, the ones on the other end are the clutch splines that go bad. That shaft isn't going to last too long with the splines starting to go bad. I would go with an extended flange clutch plate if you hope to get any life from it.
