Anyone's S eating those rubber cat mounts?

Mine is on it's second set and it's time for a third.

Anybody else have this issue? The cat starts to rub on the subframe and it vibrates like crazy.

Thanks! Mine is a 99 and it's going to come off warranty soon. Yes, I bought as a BMWNA pool bike in 2K, which is why it's now coming off instead of last year.

If you have, were you able to solve the issue? And yes, I know I could ditch the cat....

Thanks in advance,

dave

Ditch the cat? I thought you liked cats.

Dave,

I don't have a problem with those rubber mounts, and haven't heard of anyone else, either. Doesn't mean it hasn't happened, I just haven't heard of it.

Where do the bushings wear out? At the bottom? Same place every time?

Since they have been replaced several times, I'd think that the original problem hasn't been handled yet. I'm thinking that there's pressure on the cat that's forcing it in one direction, and perhaps loosening the complete system - from the heads back - and then carefully tightening everything up could handle it.

Maybe something is tweaked and forces the cat to push on those bushings.

Sorry if I haven't been much help.

Terry

Dave,
I'm with Terry on this one, in that there is probably some exhaust miss-alignment in there somewhere. Loosen it all off, including the balance pipe, give it all a good wiggle and then tighten it all back up.
When I fitted the Staintunes to my '99 model, my rubbers were well shot, and the flanges on the Staintune collector would'nt line up with the headers, so after slackening everything off etc, it all lined up OK and the new rubbers are still fine after about 35000km. Also have a look at the rubbers that mount the mufflers under the seat, as these were shagged on mine as well.
Good luck!

My 99 had its go at 35,000km, I thought at first theTB 's were out of synch. The vibration really showed up in the footpegs, my bike was beyond warranty and they fixed it free anyways.

Did you ever figure out what was happening Dave. Given the pool-bike beginning, I'm betting something is off too. Must be something bent to get the repetitive failures.
Let us know what you find out
