Cheap R1100S in Seattle...

I was poking around Craigslist (as one do) and ran across a 2004 R1100S, 44k miles, bags, for $1500 because the ABS is hosed. If I could figure out how to get it home from there...

https://seattle.craigslist.org/see/mcy/d/seattle-2004-bmw-r1100s/6956007919.html

(Not my bike, no relation to seller, but it sure sounds like a good deal.)

(On second glance, I don't like the oil staining around the final drive boot, but still...)

$1500 is a pretty good deal, even parting it out, you can likely sell the wheels/rotors to recover 1/2 that.

I read on one of the BMW sites that ModuleMasters was expanding the list of ABS modules they were rebuilding. Might be worth checking out.

It's a Sport Touring bike. Many just ride them home...

Alternatively, U-Haul rents trailers for $25 a day that are motorcycle oriented...

That's how I usually buy bikes: fly & ride (every new-to-me bike comes with a free cross-country ride!) But this guy said the leak is from the ABS unit, and is bad enough that you couldn't just fill it up in Seattle and stay off the brakes all the way home. Plus the leak is in the ABS part of the system, so you have to take everything apart to fill it up. But man would I like to have a spare bike for that price!

Space wrench, forum says you are in PNW? Rent a pickup for a day ($50) grab a friend and grab it!

My wife would kill me or I'd consider it...

Staining on rear drive looks like brake fluid, my 99 had stain like that when my rear line came loose. Not really cleanable, that I figured out, but only cosmetic.

Gah... That will be an amazing deal for someone. I would if I hadn't just bought a welder.

What did you get? I have been looking for a TIG to add to my shop.. I have a Miller Blue Charger engine driven Welder and a Lincoln SP-135T MIG welder, but need a TIG for putting O2 bungs in stainless exhaust systems, and the fabricating I do.

I got a Hobart 210 MVP for $750. Got it off a friend of mine. Comes with everything in the pic except the tank. I am planning to get the spool gun for doing aluminum. It will also do stainless. I've welded before but its still relatively new to me. I have a lot to learn

I've had my eye on the Esab Rebel EMP 205ic AC/DC. Its still a little too expensive for my budget but eventually I will get one. I love that it will do everything AC, DC tig and mig. $3000 on amazon.

Yup! I've looked in to that one as well. I have another friend who has one. He strongly recommends getting the water cooler.

And they are awesome trailers, great design and quality. Would love to have one but they scrap them when done with them. Unlike their trucks they won't sell them as surplus.

I read the saga on BMW SportTouring. You made out like a bandit. I think once you get that stuff that looks like congealed lamb fat out of the ABS system and get it properly bled, you'll be in bidniz.

Just get rid of that 16 pounds of ugly fat that was called ABS, put SS brake lines on it, clean up the mess that the brake fluid made and enjoy.
