R1200S fell over for a month, now barely runs

Morning, I went and picked up my bike from where I had it stored. The bike was on its side. Undamaged, just on its side fully horizontal.

It started and ran right away and I loaded it into the truck and drove it three hours away. Only had it running for 5 min while loading.
Bike will start but won't keep running without throttle, lots of smoke. Very rough.

Any tips? or ideas to check.?

So I started diagnosing the problem but got side tracked. (SWMBO had a list)

Checked the air system to see if it got blocked by something or very wet from drive. All good. Looked for obvious connections broken or loose.
I'll pull the spark plugs on the cylinder that was down to see how much oil seeped in there and if the plugs are fouled. (Fowled..to chicken to fire).

I also have a power commander that I'll plug in after that to verify throttle position and sensor operation.

If enough oil got into the combustion chamber it could have bent the rod when cranked. Should have pulled the plug before cranking it for the first time after up-righting it to purge. At this point I'd pull the plug, clean or replace and crank the engine with it removed to clear the cylinder (should already be since it ran). Reinstall the plug and see what you have...

Bent rod would be a worst case scenario.
ANd once the valves had opened, then the oil (if any) would have been forced out.

More likely some oil or fuel is where is shouldn't be.

What color smoke?

For what it is worth, don't think the worst first. Oil could have gotten past the rings and fouled the plugs. Pull the plugs and look at them. Clean them or put in new ones. No motorcycle was meant to spend time on its side!

Con rods do not bend so easily.

If this was on its side for a while which it sounds like it was, let us think about what's going on.

First off, It's a safe bet, oil inevitably got past the rings into the combustion chamber, secondly; the cam cover, cylinder head and virtually everything above the lowest point is going to be fully submerged (not splash or misted) in oil for however long it was on its side.

"Only had it running for 5 min while loading. Bike will start but won't keep running without throttle, lots of smoke. Very rough."

I'm with twitchy.

That sides plugs, being subjected to who-knows-how-much oil wont be happy and it's corresponding 02 sensor is screwballed on what to do.

Pull ALL 4 plugs (I would personally, or just the two on the oil submerged side - the choice is yours) and replace them just to nip that issue in the bud.

Start the bike and allow any residual oil dousing to burn off of everything, including the 02 sensor by maintaining (holding the throttle open) a high idle for a couple of minutes or until the smoke clears up, temp is stabilized and hopefully.. it'll idle.

Thanks for the reply’s.
When I first picked it up it started and ran no problem. So I never suspected broken major parts. There was never death noises.

I went the logical route and pulled the plugs on the side that was down first. Nothing of note there. Cranked motor to blow out any oil. Nada.

Went over all the connections and all was right

Then pulled the other plugs and all good there

Grabbed my laptop and plugged into power commander. And ran it. Could see all the readings changing so looked ok.

So I then started pulling every plug and checking. Bingo.one was full of water. Dried it and reconnected and it ran fine.
With all the blue smoke I thought it was oil but it was apparently running very rich.
