laser Pro installed, drilled gas filler, hid
Hi all,
Its been a busy 10 days. Installed the 2-1-2 race laser exhaust with chip, removed cat code plug, drilled the gas filler tube, moved the ballast on the H1 and H7, repaired the San Jose air snorkel and modified the license plate assembly to accommodate the laser exhaust. I will give you my opinion on the modifications so far. LASER PRO AND CHIP 93.7009 Install was like a jigsaw puzzle, but not bad. As with most pfisher price toys and kids bikes, the instructions were poor at best. I had to get a longer bolt for the frame/pipe support, a shorter bolt for the muffler rear support and a little insite from Robert Foster and last but not least Bobby'da man' Wooldridge. Robert helped outline the process. Bobby told me some tricks on how he installed his set up. The license plate bolt on the aft hole(6X90) with a washers and a large space worked well. I used the metal part of the license plate assembly and a 4" piece of angle aluminum. I have an idea on how to use the stock license plate light, more later. The chip was very straight forward but be sure that it clicks in all the way, but don.t push to hard and ground yourself and the tools or you 'will' be bummed. I removed the cat code plug per Roberts instructions. On a side note,.. download the 'S' manuel from Rob wijhenke, Thanks Rob. I started the bike up and it sounds like a cross between a Duc and a jet, impressive. Its not as loud as a Harley but ear plugs should be added the riding gear for all rides. The first ride impression: quicker thru the gears. When I rolled the throttle on in traffic, quick. I jumped off the freeway and got to the back road and tried a hard acceleration 1st felt like the rev limiter hit at 7000. 2nd a little better at 7500. 3rd hit rev limiter at 8000. 1st and 2nd may be due to fuel starvation or throttle bodies not being in sync. I felt a surge at constant throttle below 5000. This maybe also due to the throttle bodies not in syc. I could feel the power at midrange and top end in 3rd and 4th. You know how their is a certain vibration that you feel confortable at, well 6th is out of the question unless I want to go over 90. I came to a stop sign and did a california stop and started to roll on the throttle. At about 3500 I put it to the wood. The bike did a 2 foot power wheelie for about 30 yards, I like it. In a couple of days I will tune the bike and see if I can take care of the top end of 1st and 2nd. If not then I will more than likely go to the K fuel regulator. San Jose Snorkel ... I have duel feelings about it. It works very well but it is a pain of the arse. The run that I got was poorly made I have had to redrill two of the three holes and fiberglass one crack and two holes. The snorkel orginally had seams from where the two molds came together about 1" long and the bead around the air cleaner was 3/8" thick. It wouldn't fit nor bolt on the frame or air cleaner. After reducing the seam and the bead and drilling the holes it fit, The next problem was the wings where the bolt holes were drilled were 3/8" above the air cleaner holes. I tighten them and let it go. After being on the bike for 5 months one wing was cracked into the snorkel chamber a seam was leaking and the bikes body panel was wearing a 1/2" X 4" hole into the snorkel. I redrilled the holes and ground the bead more so that the snorkel would have a passive fit. Then I got the fiberglass, lots of fun. Its too bad that such a fine idea had poor workmenship. To his credit I called Chris and explained the problem. He offered to replace mine with another when the next batch was made. He could not tell me when it would be done so I kept mine,( one in the hand is worth two at a latter day). GAS FILLER CAP. Roger if you are out there the difference between the stock gas level and drilled is 3/10 of a galleon ( for me about 10 more miles on a tank of gas). I removed the filler tube and drilled two 4mm holes about 6mm from the lip. I bent the gas overflow within the tank up about1/4" so the plastic bulb would hit the top of the tank. I do not think that gas will pour into my helmet if I put it on the right foot peg. HID revisited. I hated placing the ballast on the electrical boxes. They made putting on the panels a royal pain. I relocated them in front of the horn. I used the baskets that were included and put the two ballast together. One of the holes I used a small bolt and nut the other I bolted to a small piece of angle aluminium which had a second hole the same size as the bolt that holds the horn. A slight adjustment of the horn and it fits. I used two ty raps to hold the front of the basket/ballast combo to the fairing frame below the lights. Its a great location and the panels are easy to put on. thanks for the help one and all. comments will be welcome ![]() ![]()

Seems like you have been enjoying yourself with a little tinkering on your S. Now you can go out and have some fun riding it!!
Only you can say if it has all been worth it and I would suspect a YES to that. Cheers TREVOR

Hi,
Thanks for the gas capacity info. Back on the chip. Why did you pull the catcode plug? Why do you believe (other than previously posted un supported assertions) that removing the cat code plug does anything to select an alternate map for that chip. Unless laser has undocumented features (not impossible) this is just one more old wives tale. A few people pull the plug on stock chips and go into a default enrichned map which helps most bikes and configs a bit. They then think pulling a lug on any chip will help. Duhhhhh. I bet Joe would see less perf (though better mileage) if he pulled his.

The only problem with drilling the gas filler is the very real possiblity of gas getting into the cannister and carrying trash, instead of gas fumes, into the throttle bodies. If you do drill to add more gas, or even usually fill the tank up into the top portion of the filler, get rid of the cannister.

Hi all,
Trevor, I had my front wheel 'dancin' out of the corners between patients. I kind of 'stored up' thing to do and got to then when I added the chip and pipe. It was fun tinkerin in the garage, I missed it. ![]() Roger, You must be a mind reader. I just got off the phone with Robert Foster. It seems that Laser had recommended that the cat code be removed. The new batch of chip,(which I have one), seem to be different. The chip instructions stated: For R1100R and R1100GS: Remove the beige Motronic relay PERMENANTLY from ;the fusebox, located under the seat. Well, I figured that since laser had sent be the wrong bolts and my cat code plug was yellow and they were removing the cat code plugs in the laser system I would pull mine. Robert got a hold of me and said that they had an S on the dyno after installation of the same system as mine. He said that it was down 3hp in the low end and at lunch looked that the instruction he had seem a hundred times. He noticed the new line in the instructions. He installed the cat code plug and found the 3hp on the low end. Anyway I'm putting the cat code plug back in tonight or tomorrow. At the present the bike is too rich on the low end and will load up at idle. Roger, if this bike could be modified to increase the power band up to 9.5k or 10k inexpensively, with the addition of the lower gear set,(3.00 because of the increased rpm range), god what would we have. Bert, I 86ed the cannister at 200 miles, I figure its an extra 10 to 12 miles. For 20min of time what the heck. Bending the vent up so that the plastic bulb hits the top of the tank keeps me from having gas in my helmet when it is on my right foot peg and a full tank of gas. The stock position for athe bulb on my tank was about a inch below the top of the tank. But hey Bert I gotta mess with things, it in my nature. Bad billy, What about those leathers got them yet ![]() ![]() ![]() Jeff

Hi all,
roger, just a side note, after the above message I went for a ride then put the cat code plug back in. The bike idles better and doesn't load up as much under 3000, but the bike doesn't feel as strong in the above 4000. Their is still alot of power but it feel lean. The power is likely more manageable bit the front wheel doesn't 'dance' as much in the same corners. Right now I feel that the cat code should remain. I also think that more gas is needed above 4000, possibly a k gas regulator. TTFN Jeff

Thanks, it really was a good idea. Has anyone had these problems with the original InDuct from Boxer Performance ? ![]()
