5 1/2 " Rear Wheel

Hi, I am new to the forum so I apologize if this has already been covered in a previous thread. I understand that you could get the 5 1/2" rear wheel as used on the K1200 as an option for the 99 R1100S's. Any idea if one from an 05 K1200 would work?
Thanks,
Kooze

Consider weighing this against how much your turning will be slowed buy going to the wider tire...you need to be hurting for rear tire traction to need to move from a 170 to a 180...

Interesting you find any difference worth noting from switching from a 170 to 180. Mostly what I found was a much better selection of tires & I wasn't riding the outside edges as much with the 180. As for flickability the tires selected determined that far more than width. And yes they stick better being wider.

Plenty on here over the years about wanting a bigger one....and that includes the rear wheel...

Mine came with a 170 all those years ago and 180’s were a rarity then, although I would have thought a trail of bike breakers would source one, I went the expensive route with Dymags which I have on the bike to this day.

Nope the K1200s/r wheel will not fit, I also have a K, the obvious straight away the 1100 is 4 bolt the K is 5.

I would have thought Beemer Boneyard would be the OP’s first place to ask about such, just make sure it is true they are cast slightly offset and buckle easily.

Selection wise, 180 win, faster turn in, 170s, you need to really be hustling it to need the extra grip...

Every single time I ride, also why I've hated every sport touring tire I ever tried.

First thing to note,..the K1200s 5.5” rear wheel (although has same 5 spoke pattern) won’t work on an R1100s . The brake rotor on the K bike is attached to the final drive hub,..
The brake rotor on the R bike is attached to the actual wheel. I’ve been down this road a few years back when I bought a 5.5” K1200s rear wheel from a closing BMW dealership & had it shipped in from another State. No returns, and it wouldn’t work. Sold it and eventually found a clean 5.5” rear wheel from an R1100s. My R11 is i-abs bike and the wheel came from a non-abs bike,.. but some micrometer measured stainless steel shims and she works perfectly.
For the record, I much prefer the wider rear wheel, huge improvement for my taste. Much more stable for higher speed twisties with a little extra counter steering.
Hope this helps.
