What is an R1100S Light and is this one?

Ok I've searched the boards a half dozen ways trying to get a clear description of the "Light" model of the R1100S but have not found one. Can someone tell me what a "Light" is beside black with some CF parts and is this one on Ebay for real?

2001 BMW R1100S LIGHT EDITION. 1 OF 200 MADE! BIKE IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION! ONLY 2392 MILES! I have the service manual in print and on cd. The saddle bags and mounts are not included but negotiable. AWESOME BIKE!!!

Thanks...and I'm a newbie in search of an R1100S

The R11S light was only produced for the 01 model year. I had grester use of carbon fiber instead of the normal plastic body parts. The rear seat cowl, the tank center cover, the turn signal fairings and front headlight fairing and the cf belly pan. Also has sport shocks.

I checked it out on ebay site and it appears to be a very nice bike. The bags should not be extra at that start price.

Looks legit. Seems to have all the "light" signs.
Bikerfish will probably pipe up.

Wasn't most of the engine blacked out on the "light" models too?

Also, DCRIDER, since you are close you could call Bob's BMW and talk to one of their service writers (I think his name is Daryl) as I think he has (or had) a "Light" model. I checked out the ebay add. It is a nice looking bike.

What are you guys talking about?

The brochure, if you read it specifically describes the R1100S "lite." Those other bikes are just the variety from the 2001 brochure. The black bike in the brochure is a lite. I have all the brochures somewhere.

And, by the way, here is the original entry for this particular eBay bike from the MicaPeak registry, originally purchased on 9/28/2000, registry updated 10/1/2000 (One above our member Bill Vining). Sandwiched in among a bunch of lites.

Here we go again, comes up once a year or so ;-) ... 2001 only, "sport" longer shocks/yellow springs, blacked out engine block, CF lower fairing, CF seat cover, CF instrument overlay, steering damper, wider rear wheel, shorter paralever arm (on many of them), low mount bars, black only, and most importantly - CF spark plug wire guides/covers! I'm probably missing a few extras, though. No centerstand either.

A total beast, probably at least 20 hp up on the other models that year ;-)

Got one. Keepin' it.

Mike

R1200Ses are way too common.

Forgot one critical R1100S part - the CF headlight surround. Good for another 10 mph at least.

And another - the tank strip/gas cap surround. Another 5 mph! Sure I've forgotten another 20 mph somewhere...

Thank you all for the info, this board is a great wealth of knoweldge. I've got an '03 R1150R and love the bike but find myslef lusting after the gorgeous lines of the R1100S and potentially wanting something that is slightly a bit more on the sporty end of the scale.

Ah Ha - I found the final 20 mph - the CF heel guards!

You Aussies don't know what you're missing ;-)

Craig, I was slow that day - didn't have the CF cowl, but it felt real good to be carrying the Shannon cowl instead.

I traded my '04 50R up last year for a Grey/Mandarin '04 11S, couldn't be more pleased. The R is a bit more comfy in town, but who rides in town all the time? Good luck with acquiring the S of your dreams...you won't regret it!

That's right. Your name is just a little further down the Micapeak listing...
