Lucky Find

Last weekend I went to the local BMW Dealer and they had a Daytona Orange R90S sitting front and center in the show room.

I talked to the lead sales guy and he said "not for sale". I didn't ask any further question, but I sent a picture to my brother. He owned a '74 R90S, same color.

He ended up riding out to check it out.

The story he got was that the owner of the dealership got a call that there was an old BMW sitting in a Pawn Shop in Kinston, NC.

He called the place and and asked what year/model.

When he learned it was a R90S, he flew home from NYC and drove down with the trailer.

$7,800 dollars later, he was trailering home an original 5,000 mile R90S.

My brother told me that it looks like it has the original tires, paint, everything.

I look 3x a month for R90S on craigslist, cycletrader, FBMarketplace and never saw it.

Unbelievable fine. Sure wish I would have seen it first

I loved my red/black '78 R100S until it wore out. Even with a complete suspension & bearing rebuild it would start weaving over 60 mph. I couldn't get the tires it liked anymore & it seemed it hated every one I tried on it to replace them. Once I started riding my daughter I realized it was time for an upgrade. I ended up with a '99 R1100RS & never looked back. I discovered radial tires & was totally amazed how well they worked. My original want was for an R1100S but it was just too much at the time so I settled for the RS, not in the same league though. I found the one I got now a couple years later & snapped it up. Still got it & it still rips & handles great.
Any who that's a killer find, at only 5k miles it should run and handle fine, mine had 135k on it when I traded it off & was most definitely worn out handling wise. The motor had never been opened & still ran fine. Oh yeah, I always hated those brakes, spent innumerable hours trying to get them adjusted so they stopped & didn't rub.

That's a good price for the most desirable trim. It's got the thin pipes too. Enjoy

So if I read this right, neither you or your brother got the bike, but the dealer scooped it up and it's on display now?

I may be wrong, but that looks like a 75 to me: the vented rotors, plastic turn signal housings, and color are all 75 and on. I recall the kickstart went away after 74 as well (but I can't see the left side of the bike).
