Old guy re-intro
I've been away from this forum for awhile busy with other things and toys, but I picked up this totally stock 2002 R1100S with 18,000+ miles, and thought I'd say "hey".
Got a chance to ride it this morning about 75 miles recalling all the days and miles i put on my other two, a 1999 R11S and a 2004 R11S BCP. This bike taught me to be smooth and now I need to learn again evidently 'cos I'm as rough and choppy as a newb. But I'll figure it out. Hope some of the old timers will chime in so that I can hear what y'all been up to while I've been gone. Hi Bob, I see you've been playing in the car forums lately. It's a bit slow here, nothing like the old days where heated discussions were the norm. Nice find, I'm amazed at the number of low mileage, shiny bikes people are finding lately. Makes me think I should sell off my old ride & look for a replacement, just would hate having to refarkle all over again as so much of it has disappeared.

I am always tempted to farkle. However this bike is bone stock with the exception of a Sargents seat so I think I should just let it remain as it left the factory. I might have to add some Ohlins though. These stock suspension units don't dampen as well as newer bikes. But I gotta put a few miles on it first before coming to that.
The seat. I also have the stock seat but not the rubber bumpers that hold it on or the coin screws that tighten it down. Years ago I recall that the stock seat was pretty awful but it wore in well so much so that I kept it. If anyone has the above items please let me know. |
Welcome back! I hope you're doing well. I sold the S a while ago, but I still have an oilhead in the garage.

Nice find Bob!
I had to look twice when I saw your post, thought the forum was broken! Hopefully it doesn't disappoint as a 20 year old bike is falling more into the "vintage" category. I've got mine back to literally showroom condition and think it's again as reliable as it once was. Was the prior owner anyone we knew? And I can't recall, but is that the one you had found at the dealership a year or two ago and someone bought it? Matches the Boxter too! |
Hey Bob! Great to see you posting again. That looks like really fun bike, to play with on your local roads.

And Jim Moore of course. Didn't we do a track day at Roebling Road years ago?

Jeez even thought I was seeing things , hope you are well..still have the old S although at the back of the garage.

Hey Chris. I'm well and hope you are too. Good to see that some are able to hold onto things. I tend to let them go so that I can regret it. :)

Hi Bob
I seem to have acquired the habit of buying and not selling so the 1100 is part of the family furniture and still has its secrets.., and yes I/we also have a 1290 KTM a GT with Dymags...something’s never change!!! |

Hi Bob! Good to see you with another S. I still have mine, 134,xxx miles on it now!
|
Hi guys, great to hear from you all. Interesting to see how the R11S community has evolved, from new owners to retreads like me to long time owners. Hey Bill you da man with 134,000 miles.. WOW!

YO OLD GUYS! Yeah you too Bob ;). I had to let the big German girl go in favor of a skinny Italian but she found a new home in Gary Sinise's veterans program.
I've been finding parts all over my basement since then! Good to see the old crew is still kickin'. |
