BCR Front Shock Adjuster Issue

Hey everyone - I'm a first time poster and while not new to riding and wrenching on BMW motorcycles, have recently purchased my first R1100S - a 2005 BCR. Thanks to all for the wealth of information on this forum.

The adjuster dial on my from shock does not index - I have to turn it all the way firm to keep it from self-loosening all the way to the full soft position. I remember reading somewhere that there should be a ball and spring in the mechanism, but mine is missing and the parts fiche doesn't show it available separately. Hoping someone here might have a resource.

Jim

I found the answer:

I replaced my stock shock with a Wilbers recently, but the stock knob still screws on the top, so I wanted to keep it. (I think the top end of the Wilbers is a raw threaded rod, maybe...you have to put _something_ on it!)

Anyway, I found the spring still in the hole in the stock shock-top boss, but the ball bearing was gone. I couldn't find a ball the exact right size, but I had a piece of brass rod that was right, so I cut a little piece and rounded one end. That works perfect: I have an indexing knob on the top of my Wilbers shock. It doesn't do anything, but it's fun to turn.
