Idle adjustment

2001 R1100S with 22,000 miles. Had pressure buildup in tank. Open tank and whoosh. Last time on hot day opened tank to relieve pressure and gas geyser went everywhere. Previous owner did canisterectomy. Traced lines and he capped the vent hose instead of the vacuum hose. Got that fixed and I capped off the throttle body ports with caps. Now idle is at 2500/3000 rpm.
Searched on how to turn down idle speed and coming up short. Can someone point me to a thread on how to do that?
Thanks for any help.

Hi Mophead, you'll need balance Tube/Tool and a 10 mm wrench to loosen the adjuster lock nuts on each throttle cable at the throttle body and a wide screw driver to adjust the idle mixture screws to get it right. Please do a search for the YOU TUBE BMW guy who has an excellent video on how to adjust the throttle bodies.

Hope this helps
Slick....

An idle that high means your choke is on, or your throttle cables are so tight they're holding open the butterflies. You generally use the brass screws to adjust the idle, but they can only do a few hundred rpm. You definitely have a bigger problem. Not a huge problem, just more involved than adjusting the screws.

Also make sure that the throttle cables are seated down into their sockets on the throttle bodies. You should be able to open the throttle at the twistgrip about 1/4 and let go- the throttle should snap against the stops on the throttle bodies.

Thanks for the replys. I think the choke cable may be an issue. Choke lever doesn't move like it used to. Will have to check it out when I can.

Thanks for the help. Much more versed on Brick bikes versus Boxers. Appreciate the help!!

Bowden box fun time. I rarely use my fast idle lever just because I never want to dick with the Bowden box. Generally, you don't want to adjust the left side cable adjuster unless you see the blue locking crap is broken, only the right side is adjusted then the idle is set with the brass air screws using a balance tube or gauges. I have a Twinmax that works great for that.
