Clutch Updates?

A while back there were some posts from some of the experts on this board like Bobby and Roger about an "improved" race clutch that may become available for the S as it was developed for the BC version.

Any updates on availability??

My lead tech did a clutch replacement on an LT last month and the clutch supplied by BMW was the same one we installed in the Boxer Cup Race bike. So I think it will eventually supercede the old number. Will post when I have a definite answer.

Great Bobby!

You sure it is the same as the LT?

Cheers!

hell, if the numbers are the only issue, what is the price for the LT's clutch?

Well, if I go to the handy dandy ETK program, I get part # 21 21 2 333 448 for a 2002 LT Clutch Plate. Chicago BMW shows a list of $118 and discounted to $94.40 It is listed as 180MM ??

The exsploded parts diagram shows several parts, what other ones would you need to so the job?

yeah the question of other parts came t mind as well. 180MM, does that vary from the S clutch plate? Talk about cheap depending on what other parts may be required, plus the labor...the bike has to be split in half, correct?

Just curious, how many of you have had clutch problems without having the rear seal leak oil onto it?

would not say i have clutch problems, but having felt the difference in slippage from the added torque after chip, pipe, etc. (of course it could be a seal leak) but considering the symptoms are sporadic and at various temperatures, sometimes i can do it on command, other times i can't seem to make it slip at all, assuming it is not the seal. my stock S in 98 never exhibited any slippage, but the amount of torque increase indicated by pre- and post-dynos, is it quite a bit and i am sure that translates to force on the clutch.

Yep, clutch slipping when launched, found clutch was worn and no oil on it (must be my riding style ) - 18months old 32,000 Km.

OK.......For clarification purposes. They have updated the K1200LT clutch to the same material as the Boxer Cup Race Clutch. Different clutch, same material(lacks copper visibly) for the LT versus the R bikes. However there is a new part number for the R clutch and it looks like it will be standard issue when the previous part runs out, just a guess though. Will post the valid part number when I see it with my own eyes.
