Damaged 12S

Hi guys;
I’m pretty sure my 12S will be written off.
Damage from a crash last week while attending the Chief Joseph rally is very extensive.
I am at home and healing and all my gear is with me thanks to a local rider who took it upon himself to get me to the hospital and also collect all my belongings!
I am hoping to find out more about the crash tomorrow when I speak with my guardian angel!

Ride safe out there!!

Damn, that's going to take some serious buffing out! You look in much better shape than your bike, heal quick.

Ouch, good to hear that you are OK. Looks like that helmet took a good hit.

Hope you have a quick recovery.
Considering the damage to the bike, just happy that you are doing okay.

The bike can be replaced. Happy to see you weren't totaled. Heal quickly.

You look somewhat like Flatbutt!

Did you break any bones? Or organ damage? Or is everything sore but OK?

Thanks for all the well wishes!

I have no idea if I look like Flatbutt??

I'm home and all my gear is here. Broken little finger on right hand, cracked pelvis, concussion and torn shoulder ligaments. No damaged organs! No surgery!!

Neotech is junk and I'm wondering about buying another flip up again?? The helmet stayed shut but the pivot is destroyed.

Aerostich has holes but I don't have any road rash.

Lee Parks DeerTour short gloves have a couple of holes and only a black thumb nail to show for it. I like these gloves because of the dexterity and while they did do the job I think another 20ft of sliding could have given me lots of hand damage.
Already purchased some Racer gloves with more armour.

Sidi boots have minor scrapes.

Chris was the Pepsi driver that got me into his truck and drove me to the hospital.
Chris figured I hit a pea gravel patched pot hole and the back end broke loose. Pot hole was in the shade over a small hill so limited sight lines?
I really don't know as I don't remember a thing??

Looks like the bike high sided and spent some time upside down. All switch gear is destroyed, radar detector and GPS are destroyed, no more clutch/brake reservoirs. One Helibar bent, tank bag destroyed, Hattech rack damaged and looks like almost all bodywork damaged/destroyed.

Bike slid on the road for a bit then hit the embankment where there was a rock that bent the rear HP2 wheel, doubt the wheel can be repaired.

Sub frame is bent.

That's about it for now. Left side is pretty sore and brain is foggy so need lots of rest.
Already cancelled my week long cycling vacation so that sucks!

I do think I'm pretty lucky that a few people were on scene right away and took care of me quickly.

Ride safe everyone.

The no damaged organs is a good thing, the concussion and torn shoulder ligaments don't sound as good.

Yes, you were lucky there were people to help, very nice that Chris could take the time to get you to a hospital.

I was considering one of those helmets last year and went with the GT AIR 11, was thinking the jaw section could be weak. After looking at yours I think I made the right choice. It did do its job though.

Holy hell that's awful! Sorry about the bike but glad you're ok.

That is the weakness of the flip up but it seems to have done its job.

Thanks for the well wishes!
I'm on the mend and just saw my doc yesterday to figure out a physio plan and what if anything to do with my broken bones.
As for the helmet, I thought long and hard about what to buy and ended up getting another Neotech. I have a couple of full face helmets and the flip up is just so nice to have when I am in the usual ferry line up, while crossing the border and usual gas fill ups, etc.
The jaw piece did not open during the crash but the pivot is destroyed.

Cheers

Glad you’re ok. Since the helmet scratches are on the left, perhaps you came off first and then the bike high-sided on its own?

I don't think so as most of the bike damage, helmet, suit, left pelvis and shoulder indicates I high sided in a right hand corner.
I wish I could remember and really want to know how/why I missed what put me down.

Cheers

You are lucky that you did not get clobbered by a car heading towards you in the other lane. Are you starting to feel any better?

When I think about this crash, I think I am pretty lucky overall. Yes, I have some broken/cracked bones but I can still hobble around and the aches are slowly getting better. The shoulder will probably take the longest time.
I think I best just write this season off for riding and cycling and just spend time on the boat.
The thing that puzzles me the most is why I crashed as I have no memory of it and only the speculation of Chris who picked me up.

Thanks again everyone!
