Craftsman hydraulic bike lift

I just bought a Craftsman bike lift from Sears (where else). It'd been featured in MCN and Motorcyclist, they both liked it. It works very well for the S, the jack's rails lifting under the engine and the rear sub frame rails. I can manuver, shove, the bike all around in the garage, sideways and all or remove both wheels simultaneously, What fun?!

If you're considering this puppy, it's priced at $119. but is currently on sale for $99. and if you're lucky, like me, you're a member of the Craftsman Tool Club and you're entitled to an additional 10% (or $10.) off. A real deal. Hustle down to your local Sears store. You can probably enroll in the "Club" on the spot.

Killer deal , for that price everyone should get one. Especially compared to the $425 I paid a year ago for my dunwel Jack!!

One question. How did you position the jack under the S? I had to secure mine with tie downs looped around the cylinders the last time I lifted it.

I got mine with the Craftsman Club $89 deal months ago and I LOVE IT. First off, with the club, you can purchase on-line and then just drive around back with your printed Web receipt and they will put the thing in your truck for you. No parking hassles. I picked it up in the Downtown Chicago Sears store and it took all of five minutes. But enough o'dat; here's da poop:

The thing is really sturdy and safe. The lifter rails are covered in cushy rubber and are spaced perfectly for lifting an "S" (probably wouldn't work if you have a Belly Pan). Sears supplies two ratcheting tie-downs but I would only use them if I was rolling the lift around with the bike on it, or doing major work on the bike. And you can easily raise and lower the bike from the sidestand. It is a one-man operation, gentle and like buttah. The first couple of times I tried it I was nervous as the bike straightens up off the side stand (going up) or leans back down as it settles back onto the concrete (going down), but no worries at all, no hands.

For long-term, wheels off the ground storage, and for bike washing, oil changes, etc., the Sears lift is the cat's ass!

Would you have the sears part number available
?
I am not sure which jack it is, they have a few listed on their site (www.sears.com).

Thanks,
E

I bought a pit bull lift at the bike show last year. It's the same idea as the craftsman, but a lot more money ($750. cdn- ouch!). It works great and the bike is really stable on it. I can even sit on the bike with no tie downs. I figured it was worth the money, considering BMW wants $400. for the rear work stand alone. The Craftsman is definately a good deal, you can't go wrong for that price.

Where under the engine block do you actually locate the stand? (i.e. what is the balance point). Can you actually use it as a parking stand?

My S has one of the centerstand tangs broken off- this stand sounds like the answer to all my problems!!!

Picked up mine today- and it was an additional 10% off!!! Looks very solid and well made. A buddy suggested using a piece of wooden 2x2 to exactly fit th etranny contour, but I suspec that would be overkill.

Thanks to all!

Costco Lift

It's nice that Craftsman finally came out with such a handy motorcycle minded tool, I saw it too in the mag...
However, Costco ha been selling the identical lift for about a year for the same price (about $100).
Yes, I bought one, and yes, it's the best deal on the (planet?), er, around.
I just did my 12K service, and it took the backache outta the job.
Just skoot it under, and pump her up, (centerstand up please!).
The bottom frame rails sit nicely on the jack platforms.
And it even comes with four (count'em 4!) tiedowns...
Enjoy Ctarfsman or Costco, same manufacturer...

Dave,
Where do you use the lift?
Right under the engine just shy of the cross over tube.

See Photo.

Cheers
Tomas

BTW
This is the Costco Special (Black Diamond)

Although...not the Best Lift. Sure is good bang for the buck!

Thumbs up

You guys (and girls) are amazing!!! Every question I have asked thus far, i have been receiving amazing and elaborate answers and various opionions to all my questions.

This forum makes owning a bike (an R1100S that is) a sheer pleasure. Hopefully someday when i become mechanically inclined (probably from reading this forum ) I promise I will contribute more than just questions.

Once again, thanks to all for helping me (and others alike) to enjoy the sport of motorcycling!!!

The Costco lift in the pic above looks different than my Craftsman unit. Might be an interesting hair-split to compare. Craftsman has of course the Lifetime replacement guarantee, which is nice. I think the wheelbase of the thing is a bit longer as well. They sell a lot of them to ATV owners.

Costco in Chicago (North side) does not have the lift and it is not in their web catalogue.

Let me echo iraklis and thank everybody here- my love affair with the S is only better with y'all's input (and that is not an invitation to group moto-sex!!!)

BTW, the Craftsman lift has a one year warranty- not lifetime (but not bad, either). Well, off the check the front ABS gap now that I can spin the front wheel...

New Craftsman Club member reporting...

Went to ck. out the Sears and the Alltrade (Schucks...well, Kragen here in Calif) lifts this eve.
.
Sears:
91 lbs.
locking rear castor wheels
held together w/nuts, washers, & bolts
.
Thing I noticed on the Sears is the bolt threads will rub on the ID's of the holes in the sheet steel as the unit is actuated. Not so hot...may have to replace them w/bolts having no threads in those areas. But the Sears unit is noticeably more substantial. Also, the dept. manager said that the two pallets of them (20 units) will be gone in a week. "Selling like hot cakes."...he said.
.
Alltrade:
68 lbs.
no locking rear castor wheels
held together w/pins, washers, & circlips
.
I'll go ck. out Costco's manana. Just may buy one of these rigs.
.
Q for you owners of these...can you remove either wheel while in extension and have the bike remain balanced?
.
Over and out.
.

Don;

As we speak my bike is in the air with both wheels off the bike very stable. It's a friends atv jack like the sears jack,he had to replace the bolts that hold the sheet metal parts together. They are all made in
china, so you get what you pay for!!!! You can't do an oil change with
the bike on the lift, no way to get to the oil filter!!You can pull one wheel at a time and it is still stable.
