I just finished relocating mine on my new boxercup today. Decided to leave it functional.

I made a bracket out of 1 inch angle aluminum and moved it inside the frame, just rear of the shock adjuster knob. You can still see it if you look for it, but its not out in the open. Damn thing was ugly on there.

There was link a few weeks back on how to remove, but there is also a bracket on the market to relocate it to the same location I did if you're interested in that option. Motorcyclist magazine had it mentioned in there long term test short. The company they bought it from was www.ascycles.com and it's made by Ztechnik at $23.95.

removing emission canister

Sgirl, I have a 2004 Boxer Cup that I removed the canister on. It is very simple to do. You only need to remove the seat and the small rear right side panel to do this. You have two hoses to the cannister, one is from the solinoid attached to the sub frame and the other is the tank vent. Remove the canister after you disconnect the two hoses and disconnect the wire to the solinoid and tape the connector of the wire. Next remove the solinoid

You have a hose coming off the bottom of each injector that goes under the tank to a tee fitting from the tee the hose goes back to the solinoid you just disconnected. Remove the hose from each injector and pull the tee and the hose out from the right side under the tank. Pull the other hose which is the tank vent forward out under the tank and you will see two hoses by your right foot peg with an empty space for a hose put the tank vent hose in that spot. The nipples at the injectors need to be capped.
You can get the vacum cap plugs at any auto supply. Cap off the nipples and you are set.

I don't think the procdure has changed over the past 3 years so you may want to try a search before asking.

ZTeknic also put out a relocation kit for the S. Nice piece that sounds like 2004BoxerCup had no problem duplicating for his mod.

Lose the canister...it's super easy. Where in Delaware are you? We have a locel Beemer club here...the Mac-Pac. The website is kinda static but the group is great.

...and don't forget the nipples. They are the most important part, and there are two of them, of course.

Take your time reconnecting the fuel vent lines. There's already a grommit for it in the vent hose loom right next to the paralever driveshaft near the swingarm pivot.

Are you closer to Newark or Wilmington? We got a coupla of little gem roads there...Rt 82...Rt 100. We gotta hook up some time and ride. Have you ridden Rt 100 up to chadds Ford yet? There's a breakfast joint right at Rt 100 and Rt 1 near the Brandywine River Museum.

Where did you get your bike?

I agree that this improves the looks of the bike, but does it improve performance?

tHE IBMWR.org tech description is for the r11rs and includes a vent hose which is not on the r11s canister. The vent from tank hose should not be removed but should be connected to another tube runing down to the footpeg with the other vent tubes. (or am i thinking of another BMW? I have done this on 4 different BMWs.)

When you remove the hoses from the throttle bodies, you should use the "officulle" BMW plug, pn 13541460594 @ $.65 each. The auto parts plugs are inch instead of metric and do not fit snugly. they also will rot sooner than the bmw rubber, causing a leak, if they do not fall off first. After losing one and getting a crack in the other, I installed the BMW plugs (and put a hose clamp in them for insurance). All this is not really necessary as disconnecting the wire to the solenoid means that the valve is ALWAYS in the off position, thus plugging the hose to the tb.

Ther important thing is to assure that the vent line from the gas tank is properly routed down away from anything hot (and all body parts as the gas will burn your skin)

There's a nice little spot in the vent hose loom waiting just for that line

Also make sure to silicone the solenoid connector to avoid any possible shorts.
