laser exhaust install quirck...questions

picked up the new bike today and did not waste any time going to work on it. have some issues with the laser boxer cup works system and the O2 sensor...seems the location for the works system is further back that the stock setup and the O2 sensor wire leads are not long enough. is there any slack available somewhere? if not, would a quick fix of extending the wires individually work? if i go and buy a new O2 sensor would it come with a long wire for me to cut to required size? if so, what is the interface where it plugs into whatever/wherever at the end under the tank? thanks in advance. aside from that the systme looks great, was kinda frustrating fitting compared to the staintune, but well worth it. kinda over did it today, been up since 3:30AM, left DC, drove to NC to pick up the bike, drove back to Richmond and now at midnight i am still at it.

Hey Repoe3;

You will have to move the tank out of the way it hooks up on the right side of the bike there is some slack their were it hooks up to the wire harness. They tend to be spendy so don't cut the wires!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Best thing for you to do is walk away for today and go back and look at it tomorrow.Get back with me or Boxercup and we will help you.

good news

my post last night was the result of me giving up for the night. did not have my shop manual handy, but was able to download another copy locally from Rob's site and after looking at the bundle of cables on the wire diragram, i surmised that there was enough slack in the wire once it was freed of the zip ties holding it and by golly it did. so now the bike has about 100 miles on it. collar bone does not bother me a bit riding...now all the wrenching and just plain activities the past 48 has taken their toll.

i can say one thing is for sure, the new twin spark, tranny, chip and exhaust make for one heck of a bike. very smooth down low, makes for a rather entertaining break in period. the exhaust is noticably louder than the staintunes. more brappity...or so. the tranny is something else. after have two other S's and riding 6 others with the other tranny, the difference is night and day.

thanks for the quick replies last night, glad i was able to figure it out.

Repoe:
The O2 sensor has a buncha extra wire bunched up in a wire tie under the right side of the tank...you don't even have to take the tank off. Just follow the wire up into the right side of the engine and snip the wire tie.

Tip:
Twist the O2 sensor and wire quite a few turns in the reverse direction of installation before threading it into the cat eliminator. As you install and tighten the sensor, the "twist" will "untwist."

BMW Roundel LASER Sport collector/02 sensor install

Repoe,

GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD!

ADVICE:

ALWAYS:

*Disconnect the 02 sensor wire at the connector above, under the gas tank
*Drop the wire down and remove the old system
*Remove the 02 sensor from the old system and transfer immediately to the LASER sports collector
*Install new system and thread the 02 wire up to the connector and replace the plastic ties.

It is NOT good to unscrew the 02 sensor as it twists the 02 wire too much and could cause a failure. More so on the older ones.

Cheers, Repoe!

dont consider myself a wiz, but try hard as hell to be as intuitive as possible. having done the install of the staintunes i thought i was prepared for the laser install...of course it had its own bag of trick to throw at me. i think my previous post speaks for itself as to my satisfaction in the bike and system and chip. currently have my temp tag zip tied to the exhaust just so i could take her out for a spin...time to fab a plate mount.

When you mount it make sure you have a VERY STRONG bracked fixing the cans to the frame of the bike.

You all know I lost the complete system on the track, you don't want that to happen.

Also note that the bracked Laser send me BROKE THIS WEEKEND!

I now made my own bracked of a thick aluminum strip which I bent to fit the connectionrod at the back of the 2 cans. this bracket connects to another bracked mounted to the frame.

rob, the laser system i mounted is the boxer cup works system, as used in the race series. it mounts completely differently, i.e. spring tensioners, each canister is attached via straps to a two bar mount with rubber bushings. there is another bracket that mounts to the frame over by the left footpeg.

hopefully you wont have your exhaust come off again!

thanks
