Got a letter from Seargent
So I got my "pre-registration" letter from Seargent. We get a whole whopping 30 bucks off on the seat!!! I looked at this seat at the National rallye and it is nice, but 450 bucks seems a little steep. It is light and well made...but you would think we would have gotten atleast 10% off............
What ever, think I'll wait as I am not unhappy with the stocker.... oh yeah, the 450 is counting the 30 bucks off. 489.00 without the discount.....

I got an email from Sargent appologizing for the letter, and the actual discount was going to be $50. Of course, if you add back the $20 for a different welting color it puts you right back in the same place. I'm not satisfied with that price either, especially since the price I got for them building a seat on the stock base was only $329.

Before you start spending this kind of money, you might try modifying the stock seat. I just finished do a seat mod on my new-to-me ZRX (whose seat shape is pretty similar to the S seat) using this as a guide:
http://users.adelphia.net/~zrx11/techhtml/hotseat.html I was surprised how well it went. For new/firmer foam, I used a 3/8" closed cell camping pad ($7 at Garts) and 3M Super 77 spray adhesive which bonds to foam like crazy. I cut down to make a flatter section and put three layes of the camp foam in. For straight cuts I used a new hacksaw blade. For shaping I used a curved shaping tool like is used for car bondo shaping or boatbuilding. (I found a power grinder WAY too aggressive to control.) A pneumatic staple gun made securing the cover easy. Maybe I'm tooting my own horn, but I got a seat that to me compoetes with a Sargent or Corbin for $10 or so. Other than being slightly flatter and higher, it looks dead stock. If you are committed to ditching the stock seat, one way or the other, you don't have much to lose. - Mark |

I too was interested in this offer. Exploring Rick Mayer's solution at the moment.

Where did you get your 3M Super 77? Any ol' Pep Boys? Or is it some special order stuff? I need to redo my headliner in my VW cage and can't remember what GOOD adhesive is like. I used some stuff to redo the interior of a 928 when I worked at a Euro Shop but I don't remember what it was ...

Erric, 3M spray adhesives (77 and 90 and probably a few others) are usually available at Home Depot and the like, woodworking stores, and any place that carries a range of adhesives. I do not believe any of these are specific for automotive applications, so I'd be a bit surprised if all but the biggest auto supplies would carry... though they may.

Sent my seat pan to sargent for new super cell front and back. Also had them move the rise forward 1.5inches, lower and taper the front (because I am inseam challanged), install carbon fx insert all for less than $275 including shipping and handling. Of course this was in 2001.
Go out and get a used seat, strip it and send it to them. At least you won't be without a seat, and you can always put your stock seat back on it when you sell the beast. Last edited by alq2; 08-12-2003 at 07:18 PM.. |

That would be decent. I have a stock seat right now which I'd send out to get restuffed if the price was right.

At the ralley the rep said they were no longer taking pans from owners. I asked him. They build their own at this point.
