Sport touring tires

I was wondering what everyone is using for tires on their S's. I am looking for the best compromise between sport and touring. I do most my riding in Minnesota so not too many curves. However, on the trips I like to get into the twisties. I was wondering what everyone else uses and what type of mileage they get out of their tires.

Ryan - I just got 4500 miles out of the Michelin Pilot Sport that came stock with my Prep. Its a great tire - the same one is on my Duc 998, but IMHO a little too soft for the S. I went with a Michelin Pilot Road and hope to get around 6000-7000 miles out of it. So far so good. My riding is half twisties, half superslab.

Michelin Pilot Roads. 7500 miles, even wear front and back, no cupping on the front. Very nice grip in the twisties. Predictable in the rain. On my second set this season.

ctwise,

What pressures did you run on those Pilot Roads?
I'm thinking of the same tires next time around.

Cool

Metzeler Sportecs are maybe too sporty to be a good touring tire(low mileage) but do grip well wet or dry. So if there is any "sport" riding in your tour, I recommend M1's.

Hey EZ. Finally have my pan painted and on the bike. Did a track day with it on and scuffed it a bit as the suspension bottoms out. Need to jack up my preload. I'll post some pics as soon as I can.

I'm going to have to sue over the use of EZ. I have this trademarked, as those are my initials. We need to cover some royalties issues here.

ejfbmw,

I have never had the spoiler touch the pavement, And I ride pretty hard. Jack up the preload before going out on the track etc.

I have the Michelin X100s on my 929. I think I have about 12,000 miles on them. Still got about 3, 000 left in them I would say. I have had that bike to Deals Gap this year and they worked great once warmed up.

I went with the Pilot Roads on the S which replaced the X100 tire this year for Michelin. The PRoad is a bit softer but still getting good mileage out of them. Had the S at Deals Gap this year also and was very impressed with grip. Go with the Pilot Road. You wont be dissapointed.

BT010 front/rear. Stick like glue and cheap. Got 3k on them so far, maybe get twice that??

Think I'll try the M1 Sportec's next just to see what the fuss is all about

I've had the BT020 on mine and gotten over 10K. They're a dual compound tire - at least the rear is. If you're doing much travelling on the slab I'd recommend them. Also do well in the twisties. They are fairly cheap: At Chaparral the front is $90 and the rear $100. As I recall, the 010 worked well with the 020 rear also.

Ah yes...the ongoing controversy.
Tires.....
I commute and rely heavily on Sport Tecs M1, no other tire for me! Front lasts around 20,000 km and rear...8-9000KM. Noisy front tire but lessens as tire wears in. Oh, if you’re looking for a good touring tire, trade the S in for a RT and put some solid tires on it ;-)

Good Luck
Tomas

Well I now have about 1000 mi on my Sportecs and have to say they are my favorite tire to date. Great grip wet or dry, never felt a slip. Pretty good turn in, and I haven't noticed the noise issue. I've had mixed feelings about the Pilot Sports...sometimes scary in the wet. If I can get 4K mi out of the Sportecs that'll be good enough for me. What kind of mileage are you 010 guys getting?

Kam, 3 sets 010 front & rear, and lucky to get 7000kms out of each set. second set was already illegal at 6000, but still stuck well enough for me to push hard in the wet.I like the way they slide!
