Humming Fuel Pump

I just recently ran over 9K miles on my 02 SBX. In the last 1K or so I now hear my fuel pump "Humming" constantly. To date, no issues but am starting to wonder if this is indicitive of a "pump on it's way down"? It's is also a little annoying, but am more worried about a failure while out and about. I routinely go 200-300 miles from home and would be bummed if it did fail....

If it's not gurgling I don't think I'd really worry about it. In my experience I've heard my pump "hum" a number of times for a few days to a week at a stretch. I don't know if it's because I Q-Tipped my ears those weeks or what, but it just sounded like it was whirring a little louder than normal. Now I got 35,000 miles on the pump with no problems. It is much louder when the fuel level gets low (like a little before the light comes on) as the pump is no longer submerged in gasoline which damps the nose when the tank is a little fuller.

I've got 24,000 miles on a pump that started humming at about 9,000 miles. I've got the 3 year/36,000 mile warranty, so if it's going to go, I sure hope it does it soon.

Don't worry about the humming-worry if you don't hear it.You will probably notice the sound is more intense with a low tank. The more fuel you have, the more sound insulation. You better hope that little guy keeps humming, the alternative is kinda expensive. Also, change your fuel filters when recomended.

I changed my fuel filter and my pump sounds like it did from new.
