Dumb question, does mixing small amounts of synthetic w/non synth oil (or vice versa) do any major damage? I've got synth in my bike, but my touring comrades don't. Want to minimize what we bring to one container of oil. Thanks.

shouldn't be a problem, it is better if the grade is consistent....

most synth oils are compatible with dino, most say so on the label. also, there are many synth/dino blends available off the shelf. so for minor top-ups, I wouldn't worry about it.

You can mix all you want. Some oil mfgs even do it for you and sell conventional/synthetic blends that are a mix right out of the bottle.
For an oil change, I use 15W-50 Mobil One, but if I need oil on the road, I use whatever the local gas station has on hand. No worries. - Mark |
