BCR 1 Bagger 0
Hi all,
So I'm sitting at a red light (front of the lane) close to my home minding my own business when this guy on an HD Bagger with loud pipes pulls up next to me. I look over to him to nod and wave. Nothing...doesn't even acknowledge me. I have my RKA bags on--perhaps I look the part of a Bmer Geek(!). But no! I notice the guy is, like, way focused on something. Aha, he's staring at the traffic light, which is just about to go green. Upon which he motors it hard, the forks extend and the pipes are now LOUD. I ease out the clutch and follow behind. I see his shocks dive as he hits second, then third. The bike is still loud--I figured he was kind of joking as I wait for him to let off and we can both have a laugh. But no! Well, half way through (my) second, I see he's still on it and i can no longer take the noise. So I light the fuse and grab a few gears, catch him, and go by on trailing throttle. I see him in my mirrors so I slow down--he must also have slowed as I still see him in my mirrors. I slow to 10 under the limit and he's farther back yet. Well, I guess there shan't be any light pleasantries tonight...so, slightly confused, I went home...and I know, its like having a battle of wits with a defenseless man...but still I couldn't help but to smile and pat B Cup's tank. (Maybe she needed this after getting blown into the weeds last weekend by that nasty 998!) Gotta love this bike. Later, BB

b-billy,
I have never heard the bike called a 'B' Cup. Now that I think about it, I like B Cups too. I think I'll go out and fondle mine now. CYA Jeff

Dang, mine's not even a Prepie. I'll have to go out and see if there's any pleasure in stroking the Telelever I guess. Good job on the HD, badbilly. It always feels good to know you turned the tables on someone that was trying to humiliate you.

Jeff, Ha--I got a letter from Arizona MVD saying that it might be "potentially offensive or misleading to the public." So it had to go to the review board, whereon my new personal plate was granted: "B CUP" !!
Motoyoyo, Well I've been trying to be good lately...but that, well, that was just plain blatant. And BTW, be careful as I believe the Telelever is an erogenous zone! Ride on. BB

It calls to mind BMW's original marketeering slogan for this bike: "Let's just say tailgaters aren't a problem..."

Situations such as this certainly do leave mixed emotions. It makes you want to laugh but you also have to feel sorry for the poor souls. A guilty pleasure for sure.
What I really enjoy is passing some guy in the curves who is on a bike that is obviously faster than mine. One of my personal favorites was last spring on VA state rt 211 when I got behind 3 fellows on there Yamaha sport bikes while on my 600+lbs K1100LT. I don't know if it was the girth of my steed, but something inspired them to keep glancing over their shoulder at me before cracking it open and riding wheelies. I felt like a caged beast being jabbed at with a stick between iron bars by some annoying scoundral. I must admit I allowed them to provoke me as I decided to give chase when the road began to ascend the mountain side. By the time we approached the top of the hill, I had managed to overtake two of the three and was keeping pace with the leader. When I slowed down and moved over allowing the other two guys to rejoin their buddy, I extended my hand to wave. The guys wouldn't even look at me. Did I do something wrong? This is in no way meant to be a boast of my riding ability, as I consider my skill level to be average and realize that just because these guys were on hotshot bikes, it doesn't mean they can ride worth a hoot. For all I know, these guys just started riding the week before, but after their anticts, darn it felt good passing them!

Badbilly-
Actually, I am a tad suprised at the result. Most cruisers have stonger torque profile down low than a sport bike...even a large displacement one like the S. So they can accelerate real well...it's the top end that's lacking. A number of times I've seen some squid guy fall for for the bait and get taken by a Harley in a drag. Maybe your dude just didn't know how to shift? It certainly sounds like it from the way his suspension was lurching all over.

R50/2, Interesting line of logic. He was actually doing a decent job. I mean, half the baggers I've pulled the clutches on, they are so stiff its like trying to compress cement! This guy was banging shifts fast enough to bounce the front end (looked kinda cool).
I'm afraid its a simple case of the law of physics are with us when going face-face with cruiser torque, weight and all (remember, Force equals mass times acceleration ...or just as much against us if we would be so diluted as to pick on a guy on a Gixer 1000 (bike is what 100 lb. lighter with say another 55-60 Hp at the wheel) !Unfortunately, he was a d#@k about it all. Later, BB
