That is an awsome road!!
I have had a lot of fun on that road! Best part is the cops are far and few between. If they do show up the road is so twisty it is easy to run away from them!! (kidding). I'm good for any weekend EXCEPT 18,19 Oct.. Got to work that Saturday. There is a nice little camp ground in Happy Camp that should be pretty much empty this time of year! PARTY TIME!! ![]() |

I lived in Chico and Redding for 30-something years....hwy 36 to the coast and 299 back was our favorite ride after they finally got the western half of 36 in shape. It used to be crap around Bridgeville....but is one of the greats now.
I ride it every year on my way to WSBK in July - I got to Redding and pick up my riding buddy and head over. Make that ride include a lunch date at the Samoa Cookhouse....and I'd consider riding out from Denver. ![]() I am riding to Vegas the weekend of the 12th to meet some buddies for our Fall trip - this one will be in and around Lake Isabella, Kern River....SLO and the coast via 58, and some San Diego Mtns. |

PD,
thought you sold your bike, with all the parts you have listed for sale! Sure, I am up for it. How about 10/25? Are we talking a long up and back run, or an overnight trip? Sounds like Raven is digging out his sleeping bag. tony |

Tony,
Another one of those return it to stock and sell modes I'm in. Got a new toy a couple of weeks ago. Plan on lookin into a used LT next spring for touring. Wife is getting tired of the tight touring of the S and I like the 30 extra horsies and 50 less pounds of my latest sport/tour. Say hello to my lit'l friend!! . . Alex is at the campground now holding our space. I'd like to make it a two dayer. . . ![]()

Just rode RT 36 back in June. Nothing back here in the east compares to it!! Very awesome. The only downside was that we did 320 miles before we even hit it, so we were quite late in the day and ended up doing a quite a bit of it in the dark.
Possible dangers: Lot's of deer and one section of road about 20 miles from Redding where they ripped up the pavement. Needless to say, it was very disheartening after doing almost 500 miles and hunting around in the dark on unfamiliar roads to see a sign that says "Pavement Ends in 500 feet"!!!

Just did Hwy 36 with the "gang" from RKA on Labor Day Weekend. The road was in great shape from Fortuna to Red Bluff. We had an awesome time!!! We will be headed down towards the Central Coast next month...

Eel River Brewing Company (in Fortuna) is a good place for a meal too.
We did the "Lost Coast/Avenue of the Giants" on the second day of our trip. Harold |

Harold,
You come south on 101 after hitting Fortuna. What was that section like?

We stayed in the South part of Fortuna, so it was only a couple of miles to the Hwy 36 turnoff. The first part to Hydesville is the "warm up lap", once you hit the redwood forest, the fun starts!!! We had lunch at a good Mexican restaurant in Red Bluff. I can't remember the name but it was across from the Exxon Station in the North end of town.

I only like the part of 101 that gets me to the Samoa Cookhouse! There are lots of backroads there to jam on. ![]() |
