windscreen cracks

Having looked at earlier threads, it appears that cracks to the windscreen around the screws are a common 11S problem.

Noticed tiny cracks around all the screws today on my first ride out in ages on a reasonably mild (10 degC) day.

Not too concerned cosmetically as the bike is beginning to show signs of use (15500 miles), however does this get worse and will I have to take off the screen and fiddle with it as a preventative measure?

The bike is still under its S/H warranty can I get it replaced? (the screen not the bike ;O)

Comments appreciated.

Ade.

I had mine replaced under the standard warranty for hairline cracks. This was (is?) a common problem for the 'S. When I got mine, the wrench told me they normally would not warranty it unless the crack went past the blackout field and into the clear portion of the windscreen.

When tightening the bolt, do not go beyond "fingertip" snug. Do not use a wrench to tighten.

Counter sink each hole to prevent distress to the Lexan screen.
This should slow the propogation of spider cracks that have already started, as well prevent new cracks from starting.

If you don't have acces to a proper bit or drill press, just try rounding over the hole with a sharp utility knife blade.

This trick (almost) always works on fiberglass / gelcote boats, which are extremely prone to spider cracks. I do this to every bike that I have ever had and have never had a stress crack (unless I've hit something pretty big...)

screeny stuff

Cheers for the replies guys.

Like the 'don't touch it' advice most - will raise the issue with the dealer at the 18K service or just before warranty expires..

Bike is currently outside sulking and requiring a proper wash. It'll have to make do with the hosedown and squirt of WD40 it got earlier

until I have other chores I wish to avoid more....

Bring on the sunshine.
