New GS

Well, all the details are here:
http://www.motociclismo.it/edisport/moto/Notizie.nsf/AllDocID/IFE7D8FD2AC991C57C1256E1A0002D0D8?OpenDocument

A long link. Engine lost 13 kg's (if I read correctly), bigger valves (34 to 36 mm, 29 to )31 mm, new seperate gearbox...the specs of the bike are of the S (same horespower, almost same wet weight, little lighter) so with the S wheels this will be one curve monster..oh and like I said in another post it has a balancer

Whoopee! Knock control, 2 O2 sensors, 100bhp and 85ft lbs, a counterbalance shaft! Looks like a ripper.

does that mean they will get back in dakar racing? wonder how long it will take for them to transplant this technology into the rest of the R-bike family?

Perhaps the new twin spark design with each plug having a seperate timing map will help in the torque area. Did you read my article on twin plugs (igniting the donut) in the ON mag? They are pushing the concept of sequential firing right along. That is a lot of torque........something is up. Best,

Oh well, now the cat is out of the bag on WHY it has so much torque. The stroke has been INCREASED to 73mm from 70.5. The engine width however remains the same. Very trick. The counter balancers allow some of the cranks fly weights to be removed so things stay light. Very nice. 85ftps is a lot of torque. Best,

Here's a detailed image to ponder over...

Some great images of the R1200GS can been seen on the following link. Perhaps these offer some visual hints of what to expect from the updated S when it eventually materialises.

Enjoy!
