BMW MotorRad Sales up 13%

Year-to-date sales up 13 percent over last year
Woodcliff Lake, NJ - January 13, 2004 ... BMW Motorrad USA, the importer and distributor of BMW motorcycles in the United States, posted its seventh consecutive year of record sales. In 2003, a 13 percent increase in sales was recorded over the previous year. For the first time ever, motorcycle sales surpassed the 15,000 mark in the U.S., with a total of 15,299 units sold. Sales in December were the second-best for that month in the company's history, while the month of September broke previous sales performance records.

"Our sustained success during our 80th anniversary year demonstrates the strength of the BMW brand across a broad range of models," commented Arturo Pineiro, General Manager for BMW Motorrad USA.

BMW's top-selling motorcycle models during 2003 were the R 1150 RT sport tourer, the K 1200 GT (one of Cycle World's 10 best motorcycles for 2003), the new R 1150 R Rockster, the classically-styled R 1200 CLC tourer, and the trans-continental R 1150 GS Adventure.

Do not go where the path may lead, go instead where there is no path and leave a trail.

The sales were up due to the generous 3-5 first payments offer and low interest financing;it will be interesting to see if BMW can carry that momentum into the new year and will solely rely on their ability how fast they can transform their aging boxer line and even more K models with new products. If they can great, because the new GS as an indication sure looks like a winner to me and creates appetite for more...
(new S or RS)
PS:How BMW can make and sell this Harley
Tour Glide clone, the CL1200CLC,albeit with better brakes and handling,is beyond my understanding as also the new K12LT,with hydraulic centerstand shows motorcycling heading in the wrong direction;more weight,
complexity,$$$,especially for BMW a manufacturer that stood for the simple Bauhaus less is more, form follows function school, but at least the frames don't brake and get welded at Honda dealer,yet..;-))
