O.T. Honda NR500, 750, 250?

I am looking for some history of Honda's NR series oval piston bikes. There was the NR500 GP racer (raced 1979-1982), the NR750 which went into limited production later which I think was meant for superbike racing but the rules got changed when the sanctioning bodies got wind of this. There was also the turbocharged 250 twin (half of a NR500) that they briefly tested since forced induction 250s were allowed to run in 500GP then.

I know I have read articles about all of these in the past but I can't seem to find anything on these topics now. Anyone seen know of any current sources for this kind of information?

Roland Browns Classic Motorcycles has a small blurb on page 169 and Mick Walker has a bit on page 95 of his book "performance motorcycles".
Not sure who else has anything, I remember Cycle World did a pretty intense write up years ago, you might do a web search at one of the places that sells non current magazines. Surely there are some wbsites dedicated to that bike line.

Eron,

I have a book on Honda VFR's that has a chapter on the NRs. I'll look for it today to confirm and get back to you.

I'd consider dropping a line to Mr. Cameron. I bet you get some great pointers there if you give a compelling reason, which I think you probably have.

Done any oval piston/cc searches on the SAE site yet?

Thanks for the input everyone. I am trying to correct a couple of minor errors in one of the UT text books (you get a bonus point toward your grade for evey error can find and substantiate). I have found enough to straighten out the NR500 was in 500GP (not the NR750) and that the NR750 actually made limited production. But have not found anything at all on the turgocharged 250 which I know I read about at the time (early 80s).

I am really curious to refresh my memory on the whole project history as well. It seems that if Honda was not successful with a project they tend to not leave much info. out there to be found.

I did check SAE and found one paper that I could purchase but I couldn't really tell what info. it would contain. I'm sure Kevin Cameron would be very informative but am not sure if his word would get book revise. It would be fun to talk to him again though...

He is a very helpful guy. I was doing a Eddie Lawson replica a few years back and he helped me with some pointers on twin plugging the heads. I think I still have his email address if you need it.

Eron, I have not located the book. It must be in my garage. But as I recall, the book was the history of the V-Four Engine. It was a hardbound book that I purchased from Barnes and Noble about 5 or 6 years ago. The book started with Honda's very first GP bike and discussed every upgrade they made over the course of the development. The book ended with info on the SP1. Sorry I could not find it, but I'm recovering from knee surgery and my crutches don't allow me to manuever in the garage.
