I have mine wired to the tail light on my K1200RS but can't seem to get there easily on hte R1100SA.

What kind if range can I expect befor I start looking for gas?

Thanks,

Well Dan
Range is something of an issue with the community. Most of us(forgive the generality guys) get 140 to 150 out of a tank. Depending on where I am I start looking for fuel when I hit 130 or so.

I don't have a radar detector on my scoot.

order the direct connect wire tap option from V1, tap into the rear light wire under the seat and it will make it a switched connected. ground it on one of the subframe screws and then run your wire(s) depending on if you use just the main unit or the stealth remote display from under the seat and there you go. i find it easiest to stick the main unit in the map posket of a tank bag and the stealth remote display on a make-shift mount in between the instruments and the windshield. keps it in the lower portion of my field of vision.

I look for gas when the light comes on. Usually around 125-130 miles. But I have a big fear of running out of gas and pushing the beast.

Only use the taillamp wire if you have a bike that is NOT fitted with Integral ABS brakes!!!!!!! You run a high risk of inducing fault codes and temporarily disabling your ABS by tapping onto the brake light wire on a BMW with Integral Brakes.

Highlander. Be happy your beast isnt as bad as my beast (K100RS). Had to push it up an off ramp at 2am. If I had a spits worth more gas I would have made it to the station. Gas guage got stuck at 1/3 tank so I didnt know it was low untill it surged :P

There is a really trick install pic/write up somewhere online. guy took his detector apart, ran a rear remote sensor, and remote LED lights, put the detector in the triple clamp area. Totally out of the way, had 3(?) little lights on the instrument panel to say what was going on. Really sweet install, wish I could find the site still ... I know it doesnt really help, but might give you an idea or how to mount?

Matt

I suggest the HARD (helmet assisted radar display) from www.legalspeeding.com. I bought one at laguna this last July for my val1 and it's really cool. It saved my butt BIGTIME once and 3 'probablys'. with that, you don't have to look down at all...it just blinks a red LED at the periphry of your vision. neat.

Dander,

Have you been using the V1 for a while ? If so, the info below will seem clear, if you have been using another detector, please ignor the following:

If you are a true V1 user, you are used to the directional arrows. I would strongly consider the remote dispaly (mounted to somewhare on the windsheild/console area) so you can easily see it should your radar spark-up. Keep the main unit in you tank bag.

Also, Valentine makes a remote audio pod. This will help you distinguish between the different types of signals. You will need to instal some type of speakers/earbuds into your helmet in order to hear this.

The nice part about all of thi expensive V1 gear is that it all connects into its own network via off the-shelf cables.

While the HARD ( flashing red LED in your face - WTF???) system seems very simple and elegant, it does not give a fraction of the information that is available through the V1 package when used as it would be via a cage. Nuances are imposible to desipher.

Many, many, hours can be spent thinking about how best to set this up.

I am wiring my V1 the same way I wired the Garmin - right off the ignition switch. Very short connection, and keyed so you cannot accidentally leave the units on.

Mileage: at 130 I get nervous. I have also noticed that up to 120 miles I pass a gas station every 2 minutes. After 120 they completely disappear. Can't figure this phenomena out.

I like splicing into the front parking light wire (pos) and a front subframe bolt (neg). Non-critical function, switched and real easy to get to.

Thanks.

I've got the Escort Solo. Works well but not great. Nice not to have the wires and battery life is pretty good. I velcroed it inside my map case on the tank-bag to keep it from moving around. I only use it when I plan on going somewhere. Not much use commuting in traffic.

I get 170 miles before the light comes on when I ride the speed limit. 150 miles under "normal" riding conditions. I've found that performance Mods=better MPG.
