adding a fender extender, do you...

I want to add a front fender extender but my manual says I need to remove the front wheel. Is there any other way? I know I can do the fender modification but I'm not up to tackling removing a wheel on my new S yet.

Hmmm

I've been thinking about it myself, but yes, to do it right you're going to have to remove the fender.
Not sure, but you may not have to remove the wheel.

Are we taking about adding one of the little black Wunderlich extenders like this?

http://catalog.ascycles.com/viewProduct.cfm?item_id=498375

I used the screws included with the kit but, after I screwed the extender onto the existing black plastic part of the front fender (this doesn't go on the carbon fiber portion), I took the screws back out and snipped about an 1/8th of an inch off of the sharp tip, so they don't protrude and nick the tire.

Did it with the bike on it's center stand. No tire or fender removal necessary.

Note, the actual part is a more "rounded" potato-chip shape than in the A&S site picture.

Keeps the muck off of the engine a little better.

Hey;

You don't need to remove the front wheel, and I won't use screws to hold it on it comes with double sided tape,What I did is make sure the front fender is clean, use alcohol to get the dirt off run a bead of black
silicone on the fender extender and stick it in place.
Mine has been on the bike for three years and 13,000 miles later

I had in mind a fenda- extenda www.dandyindustries.biz/ $29.95 I found it on an fjr1300 list.
If the wheel has to come off, are there any tricks not listed in the owners manual. Do I have to do anything special with the abs gap sensor.

Jerry, I too was apprehensive about removing my front wheel but once I did it I got over it real fast. It is a bit tricky with te brake calipers as the clearance is very small and it is hard to take them out but other than that it is pretty easy. Be careful you don't scratch the rim. Place the bike on the center stand and then use a jack near the front of the engine to make sure the bike does not tip forward. Good luck. The I used the manual the first time. The allen wrenches in the tool kit are a bit too small, use some longer ones for more leverage. The ones that can be used on a ratchet are even better. Technically speaking you should be able to use the ones in the tool set but it is a little harder. Anyway it sounds like you don't need to take the wheel off. Also I had no problem with the ABS sensor it all lined up pretty good once I put the wheel back on. And I did not even have any extra parts left over.

The FendaExtenda looks EXACTLY like the Wunderlich extender I posted earlier (the actual unit is more rounded than in the A&S web site pic.) I think it is the same thing.

I just looked on the Wunderlich web site, and they sell the item as a... "Extenda Fender"!! WTF? It IS the same thing!

http://www.wunderlich.de/shop.php?rubrik=D&produkt=787&art_id=1938&PHPSESSID=92d13fdfed6e79abd4c5a225aa459bfa

There really should be no need to remove the front wheel!

Thanks guys.. I'll be ordering a new "farkle" for the S, Now that I know it's possible to add the fenda-extenda without removing the wheel. I think I'll use some type of epoxy, it would make me nauseous to drill holes in my Beemer.
