SuperSport vs. Formula Xtreme

Can anyone explain why SuperSport and Formula Xtreme have such similar qualifying times? If SuperSport are production based 600s should Formula Xtreme, which are loaded 600s, blow them away.

I would guess the FX bikes can blow the doors off the Super Sport bikes. I would bet the FX bikes are not working together to get better times by drafting. The Super Sport bikes work together to get their times down. My assumption!!!!

I don't think they let you draft during qualifying. I was looking strictly at qualifying times. They are almost equal.

If I recall correctly, they do. That's how Bostrom won the Superbike Pole last year based on a tow from his teammate and then he reciprocated for the 600 Super sport!!

word out of amasuperbike.com, reason for the lack of time difference, they stuck RC51 wheels and superbike tires on the hondas and it seems to be too much for them to get round faster. the yammies seem to be getting round well. but the fact of the the matter is...money doesnt buy speed. look at disalvo..he did a 1:50 on a 600, that is faster than some of the top superbike riders. even then, they are only a couple seconds off pace. pretty amazing...

Your comparing 1000cc Superstocks (pipe ,slicks.ecu matching) to anything go's Xtream 600's the 1000's still have more torque and horses 2 seconds a lap is a good margin at 190mph top speed.

added.....Desalvo on a SuperSport is a 600 ......I thought it was a superstock 1000..... boy have they mixed up all the classes this year

Here is a real case. The track I use for track Days ( Jennings GP in North Florida) .

Track record held by Aprillia 250 last year then taken away by the Suzuki xtreme bikes during testing. Guess what the 250' s came back and blasted a new record which stands today.

I used to tune 250 GP bikes for various riders Nick Ienatsch being one of them and one thing is for sure lots of HP is not needed for a quick lap time. Corner speed and skill is. Damn I miss 250's.

So if it's skill, not HP, than how could DeSalvo run faster than B Bostrom and DuHamel? You can't possibly argue that he has more skill than the other two?

Your talking about datona Its a hole different ballgame. If you look back a few years you will see that at some tracks the 250's were turning as fast if not faster laps than 500's in GP or superbikes in AMA. Datona is a horsepower track. If your fast on the banking you will do well.
