BMW Roundel Dealer prices survey

After I posted my front wheel bearing thread, I have been wondering about how much the dealer network rips it up their customers for parts.
What I would like to see is how much your own dealer wants for the same part, all over the world. This would give us all something to compare our own networks with.

Since I have already started the ball rolling with the front wheel bearings, and as they are an excellent example of "markup gone wild", I thought we could use one of these bearings as a test item.

This is the P/N pulled out of Joe's ETK that he posted last year, so I hope that it is the correct number, as some of them have not crossed over for me when I have quoted them previously

-Angular contact ball bearing P/N 31 42 2 335 815

My dealer, Morgan and Wacker, which is a large, established business, quoted me a retail price of:

$155.35Au

This converts over, at current exchange rates to:

$116.96US
94.60 Euro
64.08 Pounds

How does this compare to your dealers?

Micky

I replaced both of them when I had the wheels powder coated.
I will look when I get home, I Think they both were around $50.00

Just looked it up on the Chicago BMW site using the number you supplied. List is US$45, their's US$36 (20% off). About a third of Morgan and Wacker's price after conversion!
I wouldn't even like to ask the local price here in the UK.
Have you tried pricing an aftermarket part from a bearing distributor (unless the bearing is a 'special')? The price difference between original and aftermarket would be interesting in itself.

Yeah, this is my point. See the thread that I started yesterday.
The one I sourced from my local bearing shop cost me about $25Au and is a better quality bearing than the $155 one.

Thread from yesterday

I'm just interested in how much everyone is being ripped off, and this is just the example that I chose to use. Others examples would be Wackers charging $180Au for the rear pivot bearings, or $345Au for a fuel pump that I bought from another source for $135Au. Not a genuine one, mind you, but the same pump never the less.
By the same token, their price for a fuel filter is $30Au, and a mate with a Triumph pays $90Au for the same filter from the Triumph dealer. It just has Triumph written on it instead of BMW!!

Missed that thread, Mick - thanks.
I had the same issue when changing the rear wheel bearings on a FJ1100 years back. I had to buy one original Yamaha bearing as it was an oddball but the others were 30-40% of Yamaha's price, and quality Japanese bearings to boot!

It might be an idea to gather all the aftermarket and rebadged original parts info and place them somewhere on the web, at least for the Australian S owners. As you rightly point out, why pay the aking price when you can buy the same or better for less? It would be handy for the S back in Sydney.

Gary.
