Thumbs up Sticker removal tips

I just removed 5 hideous stickers that were butt ugly and nasty looking. You know the ones, they are yellow and white, thin plastic and say sheet like "Radiator is hot! Be careful" or "The sound level on this motorcycle meets federal law and tampering with this is a federal offense"

WHATEVER

So I got a hairdryer and heated them up, but the fingernail just doesn't remove much and you'd be there all day. That's when I had an epiphony! My old surf board comb!! It is hard plactic and is saw tooth on one side and knife blade like on the other. I used the knife blade side as it would scrap up the sticker without hurting the finish. Just heat the sticker up and slowly apply pressure to push the sticker up with the knife blade like side. Then I used mineral spirits to dissolve the remaining glue. I took 2 off of my pretty red tank and 2 off of my frame and 1 on the fork leg. Theres still 2 on my swingarm, but those will come off when I swap out the cans.

The hard plastic will scrape the sticker well, but is not hard enough or sharp enough to dig into the clearcoat! A plastic paint spatula would work well too I think! Just heat a little and scrape alittle. Took me about 15 minutes and now my tanks looks sexy!!!

Wink

Huh. My "S" did not come with any of that crap. So I must conclude you must be talking about some inferior brand of motorcycle?

Congrats on the new ride, BTW.

I've been thinking about peeling off the spec sticker on the right side just forward of the transmission. It's yellowing and frayed on the edges. Tried the finger nail method, but no luck. Has anybody else tried the heat gun method on this sticker?

It works on almost all stickers. Just don't heat it to much. That is why I used a hair dryer, so I wouldn't have to worry about over heating with a gun and damaging paint. Go to the hardware store and get some mineral spirits and a plastic spatula. Works great.....
