Paint Protection
First I would like to credit my bud repoe for the idea......
Most tank bags come with a bottom that is paint friendly, but the buckles still end up chaffing the paint, on the S, specifically up around the neck at the front of the tank and at the crotch where the seat meets the tank. So, take a piece of neoprene and cut it to fit the width of the tank bag and cut it to length to extend past the buckles on both ends(I have a marsee tank bag, 2 buckles each end). I then tacked the buckles to the neoprene so they can't shift while in use. The neoprene is black so it blends in with the bag nice and is cut to size so it doesn't look crappy..... Got the neoprene from here http://www.foamorder.com/neoprene.html ~20 bucks shipped to my door. It is a 12 x 51 inch piece so there is enough left over to make a protective pad for my Tourmaster saddlebags to protect the cowling on the back of the bike.....
