I have been breaking in a new engine. I have 500+ miles on it, and I have been noticing that the there is a tapping sound the kicks in between 3500-3800RPM. It seems to be increasing in volume over time.
I have checked the real basics: Good fuel, oil level is fine. Engine runs smoothly outside of this range. I am not getting any surging or unusual effects. Anybody know if this is something to be concerned about now? It will be in for the 600 mile service in a couple of weeks.

let it go...the engine will definitely rattle a bit during break-in...dont worry too much about it. you might not have realized it on the last one since it was an S with some miles on it. my 04 S got some-kinda-loud around the 6k service. i do everything after the 600 mile service myself. adjusted the valve clearance and it has been good to go for another 2k miles. for some reason i had a harder time adjusting the new bike versus the old...not sure why. even with the fwo gauge method, as i would tighten one, the other would loosen a bit. took a little longer, but after that, i notived a HUGE improvement, much less rattle. in fact the left cylinder was the loudest.
but after the 600 mile service all will be good again. repoe3
