Cycle World K1200S write up
Probably the wrong forum to be posting this kinda thing to, but just received the new Cycle World mag today and it has a nice long write up about the new K1200S.

Several nice pics but still no shots of the right hand side of the bike! How bad can it be?

the article actually states that BMW took a Suzuki GSX1300R and chopped the front end off the bike and then fitted the new Duolever prototype to it to determine if the concept was feasible. No where in the article does BMW compare this bike to a Superbike (eg R1, CBR1000, etc). However they do make several comparisons to the Hyabusa and CBR1100XX. They toyed with calling it a "Bavarusa". Pretty good Tech article all in all. On a side note BMW was reported to show no indication of racing this bike on any kind of circuit, spec class or not. Also the engine seems quite radical for BMW. Evidently during the testing process they accidently spun one of the motors at 20,000 RPM's for over an hour!!!!!!! that's just sick. I can see it now the aftermarket will have a chip out there to open up the powerband as it is limited now. I have a feeling that the rpm limitation is there to comply with maximum top speed guidelines and maintain the long life realiability of the motor perhaps. But indications are the valvetrain does not float until the mid teens (this is rumor, but is making more sense now)

Y'know, one would think BMW, with all their F1 and general hi-po motor experience, could build an engine at least as good as a japsikkle, if (and that's the issue, IF) they wanted to; I mean, the engine in the mclaren is a bimmer motor..surely there's even a little trickle-over from the car group...

Pity we have to wait a month or more her for that issue to arrive on our shores. At least it is something to look out for!!
Any chance one of you guys can scan the article and e-mail it to me or better still post it on this BBS so that other less fortunate people can have a read. Much appreciated. Cheers TREVOR

That's way off the mark from the initial hype. And disappointing.
