How tall is yours?
Hi,
I've reckon the best way to sort out what generation is the tallest is with photos. So here is my 1999 R1100SS (1st generation tall shocks, with second generation short S para - arm thing) ![]() For some reason I found it harder to hold the tape measure at the rear and take a photo, 88.1 cm was what it reads when I'm not bending the tape. I lent the bike against the car, on the balance point, so I was a bit nervouse that a small breeze might knock it over. Adrian. PS That's genuine farm mud... |

What tires (tyres for our international members) and how big a "chicken strip" on those shoes?
I doubt the wear will have as much effect as the tire profile. Anyone running the steel spoked GS wheels on the street (like some of the off-road S bikes as seen on other threads?) If so, who put them together for you?

I measured my '04 SA today and it was a full 2" shorter both front and rear.
Should I feel inadequate? |

Hi,
I've had a number of people comment on how tall the bike is, and the angle that the bike leans at on the side stand causes people some concern when getting off the bike. The only time anything has touched down it was the foot peg. I'm sure the cyclinder heads weren't far off. Anyone who has touched the cylinder heads down, did the pegs touch first? Regards, Adrian. |

Peg, brake lever and head all touched down at the same time.

I think rear preload has a lot to do with what parts touch first, as well as ride height.

My '04 BC Prep measures 36 1/2" front and 32 3/8" rear. So...essentially same as yours, but 2" lower in back.

Hi Bob,
Could that accounted for by pre-load? or is 2" too much a variation for just pre-load? I'm a big bugger, so it may be that I need to run with more pre-load to cater for that static sag stuff. Adrian. |

Adrian,
I weigh 205 and have the preload set about right....not sure if I could move the back up 2" but I doubt it....2" is a lot. From what I understand the '04 BCP's have a shorter rear shock to compensate for a shorter paralever torque arm thingy. Unlike my '99 standard S the paralever is straight from the swingarm....not bent up so I think it's actually higher than my '99. Hope you are able to understand what I'm trying to say. A member of this forum has my old bike.....if he is reading this I would be interested in how high it is.
