Removing/installing grips/heated grips?

Changing out my grips on my heated grips.
I have a spare pair of heated grips so I'm going to try a different style than the OEM ones.
Got the grips on but I'm mot sure where to start with removing the existing assembly.
My OEM disk doesn't cover dismantling the throttle and/or the left side handle bar.

Anyone done this?
I've never taken the bars apart.

Gratsi.

Fold back the rubber on the grip closest to the clutch/brake master cylinder(s) and it will reveal two phillips head screws set about 180 degrees apart. Those hold the OEM heated grip to the clip-on. If I remember correctly, the only other thing holding the grip on is the bar weight, which is removed with an allen wrench.

Please note, the heating element is part of the grip and the wiring for it actually runs through the middle of the bar. If you have any desire to salvage the OEM heated grip be very careful in removing them. If you don't loosen the OEM wiring to the heated grip you will experience a lot of tension. If you pull hard enough the wire will break. Probably not what you want to have happen. Don't ask me how I know.

The wiring for the grips runs back into the great expanse of wiring toward the midsection of the bike. I'm not sure where it actually terminates.

Have fun.

When I had my '00 R1100S, the heated grips were worn through and cracked. I was going to have the dealer replace them at the 36k mile service...thought I would save a few $$ since a major service was due. Apparently a bigger and more expensive job than I thought...have to remove the tank and get to the inner wiring harness. No short cuts Migs

Thanks all. Got it done. Yes, the two grip wires run under the tank where the pigtail resides... why I don't know.
At any rate, I got it figured but it took me a couple hours.
I moved the pigtail to up by the fuse box where it can be accesssed esaier.
Went for a rode with the new grips Sunday...no more aching hands...:)
