Totally OT - forum politics question

ADVrider banned PEP permanently from their forum today for making some politically incorrect statements and one of the members mentioned that our own Roger had done the same to PEP approximately a year ago. The strange thing is that I was an active member here (no pun intended) and I have no recollection of such an event. Can Roger or someone else please detail what led to this event?

nice thing about America is that free speech even generally offensive speech is protected except in the court AVR where they know what speech needs to be censured on such a fitting day as July 4th

That was one of the only threads deleted in the history of the board. It got out of hand I believe regarding the Iraq war. Seemed like a couple posters were drinking a lot or just shooting their mouths off and one thing led to another...

It seems like the initial reaction was pretty negative. I have been lurking over there once in a while. He isn't a particularly sensitive guy (to put it mildly). I am glad that he isn't around here these days.

I've been here almost two years and I don't even recall PEP posting here before about 6 months ago. Maybe I was just lucky and missed his previous posts. I can't say I would blame anyone from banning him from a forum once he purposely pisses just about everyone else off. Unfortunately, he has some worthwhile knowledge, he just can't stand not to be worshiped for it. Personally, I'd rather do without that kind of BS even if I might miss something important.

In the ego dept., Pep could give Cliff Randall a run for his money. Pep's always took on a meaner, less fun aspect most of the time, since he seemed to alienate just about everyone, and spur heaps of derision upon himself, which he delighted in.

I must disagree on Mr. M.E. Smith being characterized as an instigator. The gentleman merely holds fast beliefs, cogently argued. Too bad anyway his analysis died with the deletion of the thread.

Also express surprise that Pep could earn the infamous "banned for life" moniker from the ppl @ the ADVRider board: I thought they were supposed to be the "wild boyz," the ones who could swear and flame each other 'til all hours.

Pep, online, does come off strong, but in person he doesnt seem any more out of the ordinary than strong minded people, like myself, on this board. smallj can attest to his riding abilities...so he likes to drum it up.

well, i think they made a mistake. i might not agree with what people or groups of people that hate or otherwise spew hatred, but if you dont stand up for them, no one will stand up for any of us when it comes to freedom to speak.

and it had been noted over there, they seem to only have one rule and it wasnt crossed.

would also add that unlike some forums, we have ONE section to post and reply, not several. in that regard, its nice that we dont stray too far from the title subject matter. if you want political discussion go to a political board. its like looking for a fight and i am just as guilty at starting conversations that turn into arguments.

I think the only thing stupider than banning someone for making retarded or poorly thought out political statements (or threats) is making political statements (or threats) on a motorcycle board in the first place...

At any rate, I don't know what the ADVRider guy was thinking, but I have NEVER banned anyone. And as was mentioned, have only ever crunched about 3 threads intentionally (plus a couple fortunately very small ones when I was learning the tool)

So, let me be explicit. I find PEP to be unpleasant sometimes, but I've never banned him or anyone else as of yet. Even when they've made such constructive posts as "This is the stupidest board" etc etc.
