K12 fuel pressure reg INSTALL
I've a '99 R1100SA, motor is stock except for a 2BR cat elim. I've noticed that the bike now no longer runs rich, ie. My exhust pipes no longer get sooty. The bike runs very well, smooth, No ping/surge(never did), runs balanced and gets around 41-43 mpg, which it always got. I'm thinking about adding a K12 Fuel Pressure Regulator to the mix, just to ensure I do not end up to lean and burn up a piston.
First off, should I be worried about this, is me engine going to go boom? Secondly, the install instructions for the K12 reg on an ABS equipped bike say to remove both the ABS unit and the Motronic unit, then the battery tray just to get to the fuel regulator. Perhaps I should remove the transmission just for good measure?! Is there an easier way to do this wit out taking so much stuff off the bike? thx for you help.... |

First if the bike is running OK and no pining I would leave it alone your mod of just a cat eliminator doesn't warrant a 8% increase in fuel.......if you added the San-Jose Power-filter then I would recommend it. IMO & experience.
If you want to be absolutely sure get a dyno run with a gas sniffer. Sorry can't help you with a shortcut other then get rid of the ABS.

No easier way - remove the ABS unit, the battery tray, and try not to crack the airbox. Don't remember if I removed the brain box... but can't see why one would.
Well, if it's in the way, duhh. But I don't recall that being the case. Pop new regulator in, and, taa daa. jeff you may drop an itsy bitsy bit of gas milege too..

Thx Davidb2, I was hoping someone would say that this method would work. I had the same thoughts myself and was close to attempting myself. How long did it take you?...
