I remember some kids dropping a hiway storm drain grating off a freeway overpass, through some guy's windshield, crushed his windpipe and snapped his neck.
If it isn't bolted or welded down, someone will fiddle with it. If it is welded or bolted down, they will bring their own tools of perversion. Idle hands... (And just what crime would this person or persons be charged with if they were caught? Felony plastic wrapping?)

Some people just don't think about what could happen when they do stuff like this. On the other hand, some people are psyco enough to know exactly what could happen. When I was a kid riding dirt bikes around my neighborhood I had people so pissed at me that they really were trying to take me out. One time, a guy shot a dozen rounds from a 22 at me that I heard buzzing over my head when I was riding. Another time a guy built an elaborate concrete footing with 2 ft rebar sticking straight up on a jump we used to ride on. Luckily I flew right over it and saw it pass underneath me.
The one that finally got me was when someone dug a 3 foot wide by 2 foot deep hole about twenty feet past the top of another jump we rode on sometimes. My front wheel landed square in the middle of the hole and I busted my knee out bigtime when I stuck my leg out to break the impact on the tank. All of those incidents were at different locations and by different people. There were more too. I was lucky to have survived my childhood riding bikes actually. Not from the dangers of riding but the rage of people that absolutely hated motorcycles. I admit I was probably pretty annoying to them and I teach my own son not to push the limits like I did, but it is truley amazing what some people will do to even a kid when the are pissed off.

"I admit I was probably pretty annoying to them..."
*************** Really? Admission is good for the Soul, I hear. . I remember something about some moron a few yrs. ago dropping either a bowling ball or some huge brick off an overpass around here. His aim/timing was deadly...right through the windshield - killed a woman dead, and her car caused all manner of wreckage to others. 'Send these types to prison for some pooper-packin', I say. .

Urban legend: stories I heard as a kid in Oregon when people started to REALLY get overboard about conservation.
It goes like this: a lot of trails in the Cascade mountains are off limits to motor vehicles. In this case the cross-country skiers really came to hate the snowmobilers. The stories went that the skiers would build big bonfires at narrow points in trails, melting a deep hole in the snowpack. Then the next storm would drift the edges over and make it almost invisible. Snowmobilers wouldn't see the hole and nose-dive right in. Stranded miles from the trail head in 10 foot deep snow. Don't know if it is true, but heard it enough to suspect someone did it at least once. Some people hate engines and noise, others hate rule breakers. It adds up to repercussions and sneaky tricks.
