Shannon, are there some things that your next bike must do well??? Luggage to carry cold beverages? Seat design that makes "Hanging off" easier? Cylinder heads that provide fairing protection in the event of a mishap? what are you looking for in a bike.

Luggage can be makeshift... a bag tied to pillion would suffice, so it's not clouding my judgement.

If it ends up being a GS, crash bars will go on. Sport bike will see sliders go on it.

What am I looking for in a bike? I don't know really, but it looks like I'll get $7500 for my bike and some extra for all the goodies I can pull off of it.

wait till after your Buell adventure to decide... You may gain some new perspective into what you really want. Judging from the ride reports and pictures you have posted the GS might be a good choice. I find it hard to knock the R1100s though it does so many things well, in day to day use.... Kind of like choosing a long term relationship... sometimes a girl that can cook, and is fun to spend time with makes a better mate than a supermodel.

Well for sure a BMW cuz hes a classy guy and has superb taste in Female Units.
1200GS or a BCR, hard to pick he tends to get off in the weeds allot and likes bush, so its kinda seems right, the BCR's are real nice though, hard chioce on his behalf.
First piclfor him, based on history, R1200GS

How about a used Futura. Those things have crappy re-sale values, but are fast bikes. You could prob. pick one up pretty cheap w/all the goodies.

Shannon, I can totally see you on one of these....

Lots of room for babes and beer. Low to the ground so there's not so far to fall. Good offroad capability. Yeah baby

That is worth consideration for sure.

That list would be perfect if you could include the Moto Guzzi V11 Le Mans.

No no no no no.... for $7500, you can probably find something like a used KLR or DRZ to romp around the desert and an abused crotch rocket to get your ya-ya's out.

I voted for the 1200GS though, if $ is little or no object

At any rate, looks like a silver lining to this damage. Good luck.
