lsl superbike bars
i just took delivery of spiegler lsl superbike handlebars for my 04 S, with abs. right off, i have the wrong brake line. they sent me a brake line with a banjo on one end and some kind of straight fitting on the other. the tech man told me that should be the right one and i must have an odd ball bike. has anyone else installed a kit like this on an 04? what other "goat rope" problems am i in for? i sure could use a photo about now. it says in the instructions that i should take it to the dealer, as special equipment is required to bleed the brakes.

Woof,
What is on the other end of your brake line? We know about the banjo fitting at the master cylinder. I thought the straight fitting was went into the ABS control circuit on the servo brakes. Wait a minute, isn't your bike a "prep" model like mine? You sure you have ABS? I'm confused. Ed

DOE!
hmmm....sucks,
Correct me if I'm wrong, but there is a(rubber or Steel Braded) #1 hose (banjo) from the mastercylinder that goes down to the union and a banjo.. Then there is the #2 hose that runs down to the union which is banjo to open end. The union breaks out into steel lines on both sides of the forks. From there, your #3 & #4 hoses goes to either caliper. There is a total of 4 hoses on the front end. Yuu're right, it looks like they gave you the second hose...or not... ![]() ![]()

let me correct that erroneous tag on the bottom right.
the #2 hose is open-ended at the junction as are the #3 and #4 hoses that go to the calipers from the junction....

I put the same kit on my 04 ABS equipped S. I used a steel braided cable about 2in longer thant the stock (all rubber) that I got from Spiegler. The install takes a couple of hours, but I didn't have to replace either the clutch or throttle cable, although I had to reroute them a little bit. They give a very comfy ride which is adjustable to a degree by rotating the handle bar in the pinch clamp. Having said all that I may go back to my clipons using RD's barbacks.

Nope, got them (Speigler) from BoxerCup. Real nice feel with ABS I migh say. Eliminates some of the over-sensitive ABS action.

mr gotroad, im curious. why would you go back to the clip ons? did you have problems with the lsl bars?
i guess there is no way to escape bleeding the brakes, is there? i am concerned a little about the aluminum bars if i trailer. i put aluminum bars on my hayabusa and they bent when i strapped the bike on the trailer. |

The lsl bars are great & I've had no problems at all with them. Even better it makes it easy to attach things like a gps & radar detector. Now that I have the barbacks they will accomplish the same thing as I got the bars for, i.e. more upright posture. Why would I change back ? Well I won't right away, but I like to tinker so when I get tired of the bars I'l put on the clipons with the barbacks. Yes the brakes must be bled since you'll be opening up the system when you change out that brake line from the master cylinder to the first junction. I've never trailered my bike so I don't know for sure about strapping it down, but the whole lsl setup is very sturdy, I would not think it should be a problem.
