Weird noise and power loss...

When I went out for the first ride of the new year after about 35 km while traveling at about 150 km/h(about 100 mp/h) I heard a strange (maybe mechanical) noise and my bike slowed down very abrubtly and sounded like something seized or something(very disturbing high pitched noise).I rolled of the throtle and evey thing was ok again I was doing about 120 km/h then and when I opened up the trotle again every thing worked fine and it never happened again when I rode at least another 40 km.It was very disturbing and made me loose a lot of confidence in turns cause if if would have happened in a turn I would have been in trouble it was that big of a loss of power .Every thing seemed ok after the ride and there was nothing disturbing to be seen on the bike and nothing was over heated by the looks of it(it was not very warm outside about 8 degree's celcius).Any one has any suggestions it all happened really quick and have no idea what it was.I think maybe something hapened with the gearbox or something but I was going at a steady pace in 6th.Maybe the gear slipped or whatever. It didn't sound like it was electrical cause that would only have made the engine sound like it was running without fuell.Diidn't see any light go on and don't know if the revs went up and that caused the noise(sudden extreme raise of revs maybe)cause it all happened to fast. Please let me know if you have encountered something similar and let me know where to look.

Never heard of that. Far fetched but a brief suck of water in gas?

Who knows could be something like that but I use the bike regularly even with cold weather so it doesn't stand still for long times and I always keep the fuell tank pretty well filled but I was also thinking like something with fuell suply or maybe moisture in electrics.

Almost sounds like the clutch slipped. Having my tranny out right now I noticed that while it sat at the dealer's lot waiting for me to find and buy it a lot of condensation built up on the clutch cover because only one side has any rust on it.

If the bike was cold and then the air warmed and the humidity went up (after all, you are almost surrounded by water in Netherlands) the moisture would condense on all the cold metal surfaces. It's happening to my bike right now with this goofy winter thaw we are having in the Midwest.

Did you smell the distinct aroma of a clutch disc frying? It should give off a stench for a minute or two if it slipped....

I have skippy. Got a small pebble between the pads and the rotor up front right side once. Very high pitched squeal, slowed me down, went away just as fast. Check your rotors for any evidence of something similiar.

Good tips guys. Will check the rotors Bingo.Clutch could also be a possebilety and the humidity was pretty high today, didn't smell the clutch but I was riding in against the wind at 150 km/h so that isn't so strange.Still hope I never whitness the same thing happening again cause it's really robs you from your confidence in the saddle for at least a couple of days.

to add to the mystery~

bingo might have nailed it with a pebble in the rotor, but is could also be a spit of crap in the fuel system...especially considering your comment about high humidity. how long did it last? maybe you were "passing water" or crud through the system?
that, or maybe an intermittely bad ground.
when i blew a fuse and took down the fuel pump, my bike made a high pitched squealing noise for a couple of seconds. might have been the injectors complaining. never heard it again.

i've also had mine slip out of sixth gear, sometimes at a most inappropriate time, but this sounds diff'nt.
i'm sure you'll keep an eye on it, but if it doesn't ever happen again, then i know exactly what it was:
"space monkeys with microwave beams"

happens all the time.

Losing the problem when rolling off would at least be consistent with a clutch issue. i.e less power implies less slippage. Of course, it's consistent with spacemonkeys (or weasels) too, so who knows?
