Original Clutch Plate Thickness

While my 99 R1100S is apart, clutch needs a refresh.

My question is: Does anyone have the OEM New thickness of the Clutch Friction Disk?

I have a local guy that is an authorized SACH clutch shop, but he cannot find any data on the OEM friction plate thickness? Anyone else rebuild theirs?

Thanks in Advance
Tomas

Ummmm...dunno that a rebuild is a good idea, if the clutch plate final drive *splines* are at all worn! See also the various spline threads going on here right now.

My point is that if the splines are at all sloppy on the clutch disk, not only could they fail down the road (bad enough) they could accellerate wear on the transmission mainshaft they mate to, which is a major part indeed (gotta gut the tranny to even get to it).

The clutch plate splines are supposed to be softer than the tranny mainshaft splines they mate to, because replacing the clutch is normal while the shaft is supposed to be a lifetime part. So it has PROBABLY worn some!

I would only add clutch plate material to the original disk if the spline fit was absolutely pristine. You'll be able to check that with it all apart - it's damned unlikely! And I'd use super-thick quality lube to boot in any case before buttoning that all up (but not too much - don't want it thrown out and into the disk surface).

My bike has 65K on it and no wear! Based on the picks and thread related to the failures primarily 2001 and newer, I’m going to stick with the current plate. Not going to risk receiving the newer inferior unit, everyone is having issues with. New German Shise perhaps?

Thanks
Tomas

6mm

It measures 6mm total thickness (measured with a ruler, as I can’t locate my micrometer).

Cheers,

Frank
