Hey Bradz

I ordered a set of carbon Dymags today and I have a question. Is there anything I need to know about mounting tires? Thats the only thing freaking me out a little about these rims.

The only thing Dymag said to me was make sure that the machine that mounts the tires is of the new type that has plastic or rubber tips.

BTW,
don't be concerned when you see the guy who mounts the tires to the wheels making faces.
The wheel flex when mounting which causes anxiety among installers.
Also take pictures of your wheel before and after installation.
Getting a chip on these wheels from an installer will make their shop weep.

why dont you just mount your own tires? i can imagine some shops might refuse to mount tires on carbon fiber wheels. most the shops around here wont even mount tires you bring in, not bought from them...liability thing, so they claim. i think it is bottom line building...but you guys on the left coast must have shops willing and able to do a better job.

my dealer uses the modern wheel mounting equipment with the plastic tips so the rims don't get marred.
nobody said anything about wheel flex during mounting.
i wouldn't worry about it.
if the dealer is gun shy, i'd assume he's not sure he's up to the task, at which point i'd take them somewhere else to be mounted.
if he can mount regular tires on regular wheels without nicking them up, he should be able to do the plastic wheels just fine.

whatttt!!!!!!!!!
'The wheel flex when mounting which causes anxiety among installers.'
tell me that's a quotation mistake!!!! if these wheels flex when mounting a tire (I can't REALLY believe THAT is true) they are nothing I want my butt riding on....CF fails spectacularly when flexed...that's one of it's drawbacks...very limited flexibility and then spectacular delamination afterwards....

i never saw any evidence of that and when my wheels got mounted with new tires, you can bet your butt there was a crowd around them.
no flexing that any of us saw.

I chickened out and bought the PVM 10Y's instead. I just couldn't get the thought of exploding wheels out of my head.

it's bad karma for me to put spendy aftermarket wheels on my rides; last time I did that I wadded 'er into a 2X2 cube....probll'y co-incidence, but I wanna be around to see that cafe race. I saw an outhouse race once in Alaska...

hey rapid~

those are called "airless" tires and they're part of a michelin project.
they haven't been tried on bikes...cause they don't have any sidewall, but they work absolutely great on cars.
supposedly "tread" life is the same, and so is traction.
saw them in real life...bizarre looking things.
as you can see in the photo they compress and "boing" back into shape after hitting something.

michelen calls this wierdness a 'tweel'. see what not keeping up for a week does? supposedly they're on the 4-wheeled segway prototype. What I wanna know is when they're gonna start mx'ing segways..now there's a future series to promote, brad. I actually like a segway, 'cept they need some hotroddin' done to 'em...make 'er boogy about 40 or so....and doing a brody with one is really hard, but you CAN get kicked off a rental segway if the renter dude sees you flinging one down a flight of steps (like I did when I tried one out) apparently they aren't rated for +g's.....
