Loud whurring noise fuel pump?

Posting for cterry66 who posted if under for sale.

"I got my 99 S last Sunday. It makes quite a loud whurring noise which I think is the fuel pump. Is this normal? The previous owner said it was but I have never ridden an"s" before."

I have the same question. My pump is loud, dont remember it being that way on the other S' I rode, but those were a year+ ago.

Matt

Fuel pump will get louder as the tank gets empty. Do a search on the forum, though you will probably get a lot of hits. Mine is more noticeable when the tank is low; I think the aluminum resonates, amplifying the sound.

Matt, replace the pump and be done with it. The noisey pump can last for a very long time without failing, but it's really annoying. I replaced mine about 10k miles ago because it was driving me nuts. I don't hear mine at all any more, full tank or empty. I'm sure I'll have to go through the same thing again in about 20k or so more miles.

Matt, my '99 is only noisy when the tank is low. If you do replace it just do the filter at the same time, semi PITA.
