BMW Roundel Proper Cruising RPMs (commuting)

I am the proud owner of a 2001 R1100SA that I bought on March 7th this year.
Primarily I will be commuting to school/work and rarely will approach redline.
Please advise what gear and/orRPM is reccomended for going 65mph in the 55mph zones around my home/school

any comments are appreciated.

oh and I have the remus exhaust and a 180mm rear tire conversion...

she has 14.5 K miles

Welcome, njdart! 5th or 6th would be fine, IMO.

Be sure to read up on checking the oil. Try using the "Search" button at the bottom of the home page. Anything you can't find, feel free to ask...

5th or 6th? I use 4th-5th at those speeds.

I'll dump mine in 6th, and chug along at 65+. Kinda depends on traffic too, in heavy traffic I'll run a gear or two lower so I can get out of the way, or scoot between cars at will.

I cruise @ 4000 rpm. Allows good throttle response, low vibes and good fuel economy.

Which gear? Pretty much the one that suits your fancy at the time. These bikes can be lugged along at 3000 rpm or spun at 5 or 6 and it just doesn't matter. But if I'm cruising at 65mph and not attempting any heroics I just put it in 6th and go along. Vibes will tell you when it's unhappy.

anything above that 4 number on that little engine needle gismo works for me.
better fuel mileage. less oil consumption.
more go juice on tap.
less vibration.
and i don't hear the ignition through my earplugs.

I like to cruise at 3000RPM - its sedate but the S has the torque to do fine at this rev range. I go past 4000RPM if I'm feeling frisky or if I feel the need to do quick dodges between cars. For many this is a low rev range but in all honesty it works best for me in terms of comfort and progress.

njdart,
welcome.
I'm with brad, if I'm just bored I'm at 4000-4500, but I usually at 5000 which puts me at around 80-85mph.
It feels sooo goood mmmmm.
