Sportbike Rally, Parry Sound Ont
just curious if anyone here is planning to attend the Sportbike Rally in Parry Sound, Ontario this July 8-10? it's billed as the largest sport bike event in North America (if not the world). imagine Sturgis with crotch rockets and you've got a good idea. highights include: EXPO/Trade Show, SuperMoto Races, Trials Demonstration, World Famous Thunder Run, Show 'N Shine and much more.
here's the site for last year's rally: http://www.sportbikerally.com/index.htm cycle canada dropped their sponsorship this year, due to legal liability issues, and the local gov't has picked up administration duties for this year and there won't be an admission fee. sadly they haven't updated the website. the roads & scenery are incredible, as is the hospitality of our neighbors to the north. i highly recommend going if you can. this might be the last year. I'm going. cheers, Lance

I have been going for 17 yrs.
It used to be a smaller rally for enthusiasts and lately in my opinion it has gone the way of squids and posers. It is still a good rally with about 1500 people attending but because of the squids police enforcement is strong. It used to be a hands off policy in the past for that specific weekend but when you have morons standing on the seat going down the highway at 100mph in a wheelie what are the police to do? We always have a group of S's there and do a 300-400km ride on Saturday. Last year it was Dan, Roger,Gerd, Herb my wife and myself plus a few others. I still find the rally fun, but it was better in the past. Roger has his wine and cheese party on the Friday as a prelude to the Sat ride. I'm sure about a month before we will solidify all the arrangements. |

My wife & I attended for many years when our friend Mike was running the show. Sounds like its gotten a lot bigger since those days but we lost interest after a few years with Cycle Canada in charge.

I'm in Whitby.
Usually on Friday we take 1/2 a day off and go up via 507 and side roads to Haliburton then over to Parry Sound, all twisties. Plan on getting a hotel now if your not camping! |

Too bad that the posers take over like they did already years ago at Harley and now also Ducati...As for a sportbike rally do the Mennonites bring arabian horses and italian buggies...;-)?
I plan to go up to Alaska this summer again; Is there not also a yearly sportbike rally in British Columbia worth stopping by on the way up?! Chris |

I've only seen a few mennonites, that was three years ago, actually when those photos were taken.
I'll take there buggies over the hordes of posers any day! The sport bike rally in BC is supposedly very good. |

Levert,I take their buggies over hordes of posers being of jap or italian "race" hardware or Hardley-Ablesons anyday, too!
Hope the new K1200R doesn't create a bunch of BMW-Squids...;-) Do you know where and when the B.C. rally is? Chris |

Cycle Canada said it might be cancelled this year. Since the original organizer is moving to the US.
Parry Sound City Council is suppose to elect a replacement. Tomas
