Jersey riders beware...

Got this from a friend. He's a reliable source. He got it from another friend who he says is reliable. Take it for what it's worth.

*****

FYI

Let your friends & family know that the NJ State Troopers will be out in force for TRAFFIC CONTROL starting next week.(For about a month). My friend is going on overtime for TRAFFIC CONTROL.

Unmarked cars will be patrolling...

· Route 1,

· Route 130,

· Route 280,

· Route 80,

· Route 78,

· Route 24,

· Garden State Parkway

· the Turnpike

for speeders during commuting periods starting next week for about a month. He and other troopers are being paid OVERTIME to participate and are expected to write a lot of tickets. DO NOT SPEED!

Pass this on to your friends, family, and co-workers!

Thanks for the heads up. 78 tends to be a super speedway with right lane speeds averaging 75 - 80. Should be a fun time!

Unmarked?? They have to have some distinguishing characteristics, right?

I've always lived here in California where you can spot a CHP cruiser from more than a mile away (looking forward) and at least a half mile (looking behind).

NJSP tend to use Crown Victorias for undercover as well as decorated cruisers, although I've seen Suburbans and Tahoe-type SUVs, too. Somebody sent that same email around to my work account, Scott. No matter what, I'm a firm believer of staying out of the left lane as much as possible, although that also means not being the fastest in the traffic pattern around you all the time. Give and take. I've only ever gotten 1 speeding ticket and it was 20 years ago...52 in a 40. I would say I'm a "sensible speeder" if there is such a thing. lol

foo, i've seen unmarked camaro's too.

sergio, i think the only distinguishing characteristic they need are red lights tucked into the grill. they typically tend to have "cop tires" and that goofy side light, but i don't think they "need" those. they turn those lights on and you have to pull over.

i've also heard that some troopers (NJ State Police) ride corvettes and bate people into racing with them. then a marked trooper car pulls them both over and the corvette driving cop signs the ticket as the witness. i've only heard that and it sounds a lot like entrapment, but that's what i've heard.

come to think of it, although they use marked cars, i've heard (a first-hand account from a good source) that in south jersey the troopers drive at night without ANY lights on. they basically sneek up on you and after they pace you for some time they turn on all the lights and pull you over. at least that's what a friend of mine said happened to him.

basically, they don't F around out here.

Foo,
Beware of the state of disrepair in the right hand lanes. My commute takes me North on 287. Going up the hill past exit 22B there are potholes that give the Semi's problems. NJ DOT is patching but has a long way to go.

Back roads are better...

Yeah, the NJDOT does a slow job of fixing the road it seems. I got that from my g/f's sister who works for one of our Senators -- I'd believe it.

Don't forget that Jersey likes to use the newer, FWD Impalas as well!

Look for beefy tires and lots of antennae sticking about.

You guys ain't kidding...this winter was a MF on the roads. So far, I've been lucky and missed some really big ones. Unless I'm on a schedule I like staying off the slabs for that very reason. Concrete and asphalt joints sometimes can get really knarly, too, especially if you stray out of the tire line. You ever been down the GSP nearing the Route 30 (White Horse Pike) exit and hit those whoop-de-doos in the southbound lanes? They're like moguls and feel really weird at 70mph.

My "favorite" is 287 North in the right most lane approaching the Metuchen exit (the one for CCBMW). For years there was a hump in the road that could knock you right off the bike. First time I hit it at about 90 mph I almost did a superman trying to hold onto the bars. It even bottoms out the suspension in my Saab that's got 120,000 miles.
