Way OT what kind of dog is this

When I got back home from the Shannon Ride this dog is on my back patio and won't leave... He obeys simple commands like "sit" and "stay"
and guards the house, barks at any intruders like this is his home???
He answers to Shannon?? what breed dog is this??? Mastif? Bull Terrier?? Mutt Terrier?? I need to know so I can put an ad in the paper.

Little lost strays often turn out to be the best pets.

Have you taken to a vet yet to scan for a microchip?

Maybe pits come in that color scheme, or its got some Dalmation in it...

Sometimes dogs have an ID chip implanted under their skin, by the shoulder blades I think. You could take it to a vet or SPCA to get it scanned.

Drat! How about posting an ad on craigslist with pics... it's free. And leave a description with the local SPCA/pound. And posters with a photo around the neighborhood.

Hey...... somebody is probably worried sick missing that dog! Give it your best effort! Think of how you or your family would feel if it was their dog that was missing...

I'm with bob and ckcarr, if he guards the house, and obeys comands, and no one claims him, you ought to adopt him .
Looks like a happy pup by the second photo.

I have been down this road a couple times... If things don't work out (claimed or adoption-wise) there are a couple choices other than taking the pup to a pound (maybe you have already thought about this). For most breeds including your Pits, etc. there are rescue groups for that breed specifically. Believe it or not, these groups are pretty organized and keep records. You may even find he was in one of these organizations before? The local vets are also a good source of info on placement, though big dogs as opposed to pups are just a hard sell (its that new toy mentality I guess).

Pitbulls and dalmations are closely related, and it is more common a mix than you might think. I would check with the local vets and also notify the local police in case they have had a report of a missing dog. The owner/family who it belongs to are probably worried sick.

City Animal Services is enroute to pick it up. If it has an owner they will return it. I don't want to become responsible for the actions of a Pit Bull whose history and upbringing I have no knowledge of. And I already have a Jack Russell bouncing around the house. Thanks Guys for helping identify what breed it was. I am not a dog afficianado and had no clue.
