S Lunch Ride - Bear Creek Canyon Colorado - Pics/Video

Haven't place an S vid here in awhile. Sooooooo, came down this week from Park County and connected the camcorder at the entrance to Bear Creek Canyon near Morrison, CO (just west of Denver).

The mission: A BLT and fries lunch downtown Evergreen at the Wildflower Cafe. Mmmmmmm.

Bear Creek Canyon passes through two small towns (Idledale and Kittredge) on its snaking way to Evergreen. Actually, it is a coiled snake... the first 4 miles have a speed limit of 30mph, with the curves at 20mph . Things open up a bit halfway through the video.

Couldn't decide what sections to edit out during the eight minute journey, so the whole enchilada is here. If you have a big pipe to the web, a virtual ride...

Bear Creek Canyon on the S - Streaming Video

The canyon claims many unprepared, unsuspecting, or inebriated riders. A couple of the tight righthanders are slightly decreasing radius. One met a pick-up truck head on the other day. Sometimes they go wide on lefthanders...

Nice eh?

I used to ride up there a lot when I lived in Golden. I'd totally forgot about that ride. Nice video.

You have really upped the ante on the video quality level there sfarson....
The red truck at the 5 min mark looked to be crowding you some...
also looks like you have a different camera on this one???
I am meeting hdd3md in the morning for a weekend of riding around Mo. possibly KY, and maybe NC if we feel ambitious..depends on how hot it gets and if we get tired of Mo. The Mark Twain Nat. Forest has some wonderful roads and scenery....hopefully we can find some video footage that is worth passing along...

With Golden Gate nearby you had an even finer ride in the neighborhood! But Bear Creek is still sweet -- excellent surface, minimal sand, etc. You know, Golden is a good jumping off place for all kinds of nearby good riding. Do you miss it and what did you ride when there?

Certainly some great roads in southern MO, as you already know. Have taken 160 and 14 across on separate trips seeing a friend in Memphis. Then of course, all over NO ARK on the way to seeing the same friend (Ask me about him sometime... a blessed story). Will let you know the next time I have plans to see him... perhaps we can make a two-wheeled Arkansas connection, especially since missing your recent Colorado trip.

Don't have the helmet cam on this ride. I parked a camcorder on a mount. One sees the funky moire pattern of the windscreen occasionally, and I had the polarity filter too dark (as if looking through sunglasses), but it was fun to play around with as more is learned recording and editing digital vids. If you can record anything this weekend would like to see.

I don't miss Golden at all. I was there for around 18 months and lived by South table mountain. The town always had that unpleasant smell of yeast from the brewery. I did like the Table Mountain Inn though. Sometimes I miss Colorado though and snow. I could live around Gunnison, or maybe Montrose again.

I just did the usual rides in Golden; Golden Gate Canyon, Peak to Peak highway.

Oh yeah... the Coors brewery smell. Forgot about that. Just returned from three days riding in the Gunnison / Montrose area... Black Canyon of the Gunnision, Paonia/McClure Pass, Cochetopa Canyon, Dolores Canyon, Million Dollar Highway, etc... roads you are probably well acquainted with!

Nicely done...outstanding video...beautiful country...maybe I'll head that way on Tuesday. It must be the season; I did a 350 mile loop on Friday...4 canyons, two passes, and early morning biscuits and gravy at Buffalo so I could be home by noon (to avoid the 4th traffic)...here's the new girl in Tensleep Canyon.

MoDog,
I'll try and catch up with you if I can get off for Sturgis this year. Guess I have to spring it on them now...

Fantastic video, a bit of work went into that. Great soundtrack too!

Bear canyon road seems to have some nice and tight corners mixed with fast sweepers. Down here that ride would be a mix of the Gorge Road/Chain of Ponds, The Bull Creek road and the Delamere blast. And it looks like the double lines are just as annoying.

sfarson - Would you mind if I posted a link to your video on the UKGS'er website? Another guy there did a video of the Isle of Mann, but no music.

twodear,

No problem posting the link. Tried to have the video include two music sources... the tune, and the tune from the exhaust .

BTW, spent a week in OZ several years ago following a business trip. Went as far west as Melbourne from the Sydney area but didn't make it to Adelaide. Enjoyed exploring NSW on two wheels. Great country and people... one person I met in Braidswood offered me their home in Dubbo when I was going to pass through later!?!

Lots of good roads west of Sydney and north of Melbourne. Offering someone a place is to stay, well...sure. That's common, it's just good manners.

I don't know how many times I've watched you videos, they are great and the music just enhances the whole thing. My wife was watching me watch the current video and started laughing because I was moving my head side to side with every curve. Very good video and editing job, smooth riding, nice lines, very relaxing. What is your setup, camera and mount. Please send us more.

Also, what mapping software do you use?

Hey Philip thanks. The camera is a simple JVC MiniDV camcorder connected to the BMW's gas cap ring, using a mount found at sportbikecam.com. And the map came from Microsoft Streets and Trips.

I found myself leaning as well when watching the vid!
